This was a bit more difficult than planning to smooth the edges of the pine boards. However, a clean end result can be achieved without it. Using only 15 2×4 pine boards, this table costs about $50! The ultimate cheat for that $500 table.
How To Make A Console Table Diy
I skipped most of the build process and shared it on IG, but many of you may want to create the plans/processes yourself. So here’s the tutorial – hopefully it explains it well without all the pictures!
Easy Diy Console Table Plans & Ideas
1. Cut 10 2×4 boards to the desired height at a 45′ angle from one end. Our 31″ H.
2. Exit the first 2×4, Pre-drill a hole with a 3-inch screw and screw 4 2×4s together side by side.
3. Once the 5 is completely rolled, use a 3/8 inch double bar and wood glue to hold the two sides together. Firm until dry. Repeat steps 2-3 on the other side.

4. From the top, cut 10 2×4 boards to the desired width. Ours is 54″ W. Cut both ends at a 45′ angle.
5. Repeat the same process as the 5 boards to pull the ends together, then secure in the center with a 3/8″ dowel and wood glue. Secure until dry.
6. Next, cut the top of the boards using a straight edge router until all the boards are level. Alternatively, if you have a plane, use it to smooth each corner for this step.

7. By placing a 1/4 inch between the router bits, it is easy to ensure that the router bit does not bind and catch on the wood. When you have reached the desired depth, repeat with the router on both sides of the height.
8. Attach the sides by connecting 3/8″ dowel rods and wood glue the 45″ sides and 45″ top, repeat on the other side.
9. Use 3.5″ screws to attach the sides to the table top for extra support.

11. Finish as needed. If you decide to seal this piece, I recommend Minwax Polycrylic Clear Matte, it’s no yellow finish + no shine.
I used my favorite paint mix: Minwax Provincial and Weathered Oak mixed with a little water. Then apply Valspar limewash glaze over a few boards to make each board stand out.

I decided to make my own table when none of the pre-made tables were tall enough for the living room. This table is 35 inches tall (counter height) and greatly improves the space of the room.
You can replace the clay and leaves with pocket, so this table only takes a few hours to make.
How To Build A Sofa Table For Only $30 • Keeping It Simple
Make the table legs. The standard legs of table height tables are too short. I use stair railing posts (available at any hardware store) and cut the top and bottom. I cut them to a total length of 34 inches.
There is a large square section at the bottom of the column. It looks a lot like a square block of wood to me, so I smoothed the edges to give it some shape. I used a 1/2 inch beveled blade and removed the factory corners.
The base is square at the feet, the sides cut 12 inches, and the front and back 51 inches.

The sides of the table base are attached to the legs with pegs and dowels. If you don’t know how to cut characters and doubles, check out my next tutorial.
I cut two 4 inch long pockets into the pole post. All sideboards must have matching pegs at the ends.
This is an easy way to put the pieces together, but if you’re looking for a quick and easy way to put them together, just remove 2 inches from each board and use a pocket instead.

You can add a faux box by cutting a 1/8″ deep line in the vertical face plate. I use a scroll saw to cut mine, but the straight edge of a circular saw works just as well. Make sure the depth is set before cutting. Use a scraper to check the depth.
I cut my desk in two to make three perfectly cut boxes. We don’t need more storage, so this is an easy way to maintain a custom look without any extra work.
Attach the leaves to the groove, the piece should slide with little effort. Tighten the parts and make sure everything is straight. When the glue dries, remove the clips. This forms the base that supports the top.

At the bottom of the legs I added two cross braces with CA glue using 12″ long 2x2s. These are not necessary if you don’t want them, they just give the table extra stability.
Paint or stain the base. My table is solid black, but any color can be used. Paint the bottom before attaching the top to save time later.
The top is very easy to make. I took 3 1×6 boards and glued them edge to edge with wood glue. Make sure the edges are covered with glue and glue them together.

When the boards are dry, remove the clips. Due to alignment problems, the plate must be longer than the required top size. Cut the top end to desired length using a straight edge. I cut the chopped 60″ boards so that the final measurement is 55″.
The wood I use is cracked white oak, the wood has holes left by worms that live in the wood. The tree also has large knots that need to be filled and stabilized. I fill the knots with CA glue and accelerator. This glue can be layered and is ready to sew in minutes or less.
I used pocket holes and glue to attach the top. I applied wood glue to the posts and pressed down to make sure it was level and even. Next, I used pocket holes to make holes on the sides of the base from the top to the feet.

I moved the top of the table back half an inch so that the legs rest on the baseboards so that the table top is level with the wall.
As the title says, drill the holes with a 3/16″ bit and attach the handles to the front of the table. Divide the handles evenly between the areas made from the grooves cut with a circular saw or scroll saw.
