How To Make Giant Bean Bag Chair
I’ll show you what you need, where to get it, and how to put it together, so your giant bean bag will last you year after year!
Foam Bag Chairs
1. Measure and cut the circles. Starting with your insert fabric, cut two circles about 170 inches in circumference. I folded my fabric to make 2 cuts at a time.
An easy way to measure is by the radius of the circle, which is 27. Cut a piece of string 40 inches long and tie one end to a pencil or straight needle. This will be your pivot point.
Tie the other end with a piece of chalk or a fabric pen, making the string exactly 27 inches long from tie-end to tie-end. Find the approximate center of the area of the fabric where you will draw your circle and place the pivot end there. Stretch the string until it is taut, then use chalk to draw a perfect circle. Cut out two circles.

Having a friend who can hold the pivot makes drawing a little easier.
2. Measure and cut the rectangles. From each type of fabric, measure and cut two rectangles 87″ long and 32″ wide.
3. Sew one side of the rectangles. Right sides together, pin and sew the two rectangles to the short (32″) side. You now have a long rectangle that is 32″ wide x 170+” long. Do this. Any type of fabric.

4. Pin a circle onto the rectangle and sew. With right sides together, pin the circle to the long side of the rectangle. Sew with a 1/4-1/2 inch seam allowance (depending on your fabric/sewing machine. Heavy fabrics should have a larger seam allowance, but if you have a serger, 1/4 inch is strong enough).
Sew the last short sides of the rectangle (right sides together) after attaching to the first circle.
5. Pin and sew the zipper and bottom seam*. With right sides together, pin the second circle to the bottom of the rectangle, leaving room for the length of the zipper. Pin the zipper. (The zipper tutorial in steps 6-12 of my t-shirt pillow tutorial is here ).

* Adding a zipper to the insert is optional. You can leave a 2-3 foot opening to fill the insert with foam and then seal it.
6. Insert with foam. It is in your best interest to follow my next piece of advice carefully! Open the foam package and place the insert inside before exposing it to air. It expands like crazy and the foam is super static-electric, so it sticks to everything. Once the insert is filled, pin it closed and then sew it up! (Or zip it up if you insert yours with a zipper!)
7. Put the filling in the lid. This is where you’ll be glad you got the Mondo-Big-O Zipper. Once you put it in, zip it up and you’re done!

2. Turn the right side together. On long raw edges, use a zigzag stitch to prevent fraying. Then sew the same edges straight. Due to the amount of abuse these stitches can tolerate, I recommend using a shorter stitch length for durability.
5. Open the fabric again and you should have a nice symmetrical curve on one side. Zigzag the raw edge and use your straight stitch to close again.

6. Open the remaining sewn edge. With right sides together, fold in half as shown below.
7. Sew your 22-inch zipper in the center of this opening. I used an invisible zipper so it would be less noticeable when it was done.
9. Turn the bean bag chair right side out and fill it with beans! Bean bag filling (3.5 cubic feet or 100 liters) is required to make this high chair the correct size. There is no easy way to get those static clingy little pellets out without spilling anything. My best advice is to pour with two people holding the zipper open and a third person – oh, and keep the vacuum on standby!
