How To Make Dining Table Legs
Starting with the top material, we have these beautiful 5/4 pine boards that are 6 feet long.

Before assembling the top of the board, we need to make all the marks down where the cookies need to be cut so that each board fits together.
Once all the cookies are cut out, it’s time to hang them. We always dry model before adding glue to make sure everything fits. We have to make two separate parts on top, so I’ll come back the next day and repeat the whole process of putting them together.
When the top is dry, we can come back and clean both ends with a scraper, remove enough to get a straight edge.

Now about the legs. We use the same thing as above, only with a smaller width. The legs of the table have 2 bases and have a trapezoid shape, so we decided to cut all the parts at an angle of 10 °. One thing we like to do when iterating is to trace the cut over and over again, and then make sure it’s the same length. Now a little sand for everything and time to collect the base. To make sure we place the base in the table, just mark the center of both and then align.
We wanted these legs to be very strong and durable and also easy to remove, so we glued them and added threads to them. This is the ratchet/socket package we use!
In the end we use a triple thickness of polyurethane (contact) and in the end I did 2 coats just to be safe.

When it came to the dining room, I had no place to work, because the living room and the dining room all open to one door, and the dining room is in front of the open hall. Go to my other room. So, I measured the floor area to see what would fit and started looking.
I knew exactly what I was looking for – I didn’t want a big table with fancy legs and a statue, but a simple wooden one with hairy legs. (This is my original Pinterest idea of what I want, I can’t find the original source of this image.) Of course I don’t want to spend hundreds of people on a simple table like the one I got.
After months of not being able to find what I was looking for, I decided why not just make one? I researched the cost of what I needed and found a solution to join the pieces of wood without needing tools that I don’t have (only exercises worked here).

At the hardware store (which I love to go to, smelly and all), Blake and I sorted through the wood planks to find similar colored planks with beautiful knots and textures.
I bought a cheap 1″ x 12″ x 6″ board, but if you’re looking for a stronger or thicker piece of wood, that’s an option too. Brush (you don’t need a very fine one if you don’t already have one, this one it’s cheap) and some kind of white paper from the previous project.
The hardest part was finding the best way to attach the wood, after a little trial and error, I settled on 20 wire wood screws (I use all 4-24″ and 4-36″ wire., but it depends on the height of your table) and the pieces are sometimes used.

Blake and I laid out the soil and ease of each section. I don’t have sand, so we sanded by hand, starting with coarse sand and then smoothing it out. Once we’re happy with the feel, we erase the parts below to prepare for painting.
The process is a cycle of brushing away the dirt, applying a thin coat in a long line and letting it dry as per the label, then sanding it with fine sand, and repeating. We did this until the table felt nice and smooth with no bumps or spots. Also, check occasionally while the stain is drying to grab and remove anything stuck to it (dirt, bugs, etc.).
Next, the pieces are attached to the metal wire using a lot of wood screws (I use #6 3/4″ wood screws), the more places where the metal is attached to the wood, the better because it prevent guns.. and pull out the wire, you can use a flashlight like I have or grab a screwdriver and go to work!

The last step is to screw the legs into each corner of the table (I ordered the hairpin legs from Amazon) and screw them.
And voila, the table is completely (I mean … I’m not an expert or a handy woman) do exactly what I need. All in all it cost about $120 (I had a few things I needed, such as tin, sandpaper, paint brushes, and drills). It probably won’t stand up if you’re trying to dance or something crazy, but it works as a dining table (and sometimes as an iMac desk) and I like the way it looks. Also, it’s fun to use the fruits of the project you created.

This table is based on a $2,200 Stafford dining table. We built it as an outdoor table in the spring, so we built it so that the cedar trees would grow naturally, and we left a plank in between for the gutters. This plan can easily be adapted to an indoor table using the J-pedestal table top design by simply adding a 2×6 to the top without crossing the board.
