Hello to all lovers. I’m Carrie, the voice and DIY-er at Curb to Refurb. I feel like I should share a little about myself as I am new. (It’s like a blind date, except I’m wearing pajama pants and no makeup).
My husband and I live in a smelly 1960’s house with our 3 kids, 2 dogs and a cat. We live in a constant state of “fixing” around here. If we love the avocado green siding and pink bathtub, this house is already popular!
My favorite thing to do is mosey through thrift stores and shop for that perfect treasure. I’ve gotten good at turning old junk into something beautiful and useful while keeping to a tight budget. Our motto is don’t buy it: D-I-Y! My favorite project so far is a cheese box that I made into a shelf for $2.

When it came time to organize the look of the kitchen we called the command area, I knew we had to build a table – sort of. In my mind, I have an idea of what I want. The problem is that I didn’t find a table like my idea in the store. Problem 2 – I have about $10 to do this. In keeping with Curb to Refurb style, we hopped on the wagon and went pallet hunting! We also stopped at the lodge and got some provisions.
I tried to describe my vision so that my boyfriend and I could match, but the text I left him scratched his head and muttered things like, “I’m not a carpenter, you know.” Assigning it is our best bet. I picked up six of these Douglas Fir 2×2 posts. They are three feet long. Four are used as legs, one is used as a shelf and the other as a background.
We started by separating the pallet. I said “we” but I actually own the service. Then he cut the wooden pallet to the length of the table. Our table is 20 1/2 inches long. Then we use the main screws to fasten the board to the legs.

We put the table on the legs, then added the wooden pallet to make the table top. These boards are cut to 8 1/2 inches long. The hole I made is to prevent the wooden pallet from splitting when the screw is turned. Each board is secured with four screws. (Too small? I think.)
Remember the leg I bought? We cut it in half to create the bottom shelf. We make them into legs and add more wooden pallets.
Don’t worry about the legs! Once you turn the boards to create the shelf, the legs will expand.

The bottom boards are the same height as the top – 8 1/2 inches. These are connected using the same local ‘overkill’ method as above.
Ask for scary dark pictures and dirty floorboards. I see how he is in his new home.

Hand Made Reclaimed Pallet Wood Coffee Table By All For Knot Woodworking

Check out our full reveal here In this video, I’ll show you how to build an outdoor dining table from reclaimed pallet wood. The best part about this project is that all the plants are free! All I had to buy were some screws and a urethane spar to finish.
My inspiration for this project was the pallet I received as part of the shipping container for the FastCap Best Fence Pro 3 miter saw stand that you can see in the background of this shot. Finally, the pallet is about the perfect size for an outdoor table of 72 x 32 inches?. The end plate should sit 6 feet.
The first step in this project is to disassemble the four pallets, including a large pallet that will form the table. As such, a large pallet does not have enough stability to function as a table. I also wanted to arrange the slats on the top of the table in a chevron pattern, which meant I had to remove the existing slats.

To remove the boards, I used a Dewalt 20V Max Cordless Reciprocating Saw with a 12 inch long Milwaukee The Ax blade. The reciprocating saw works with a Dewalt cordless hammer and battery impact driver, and makes quick work of removing pallets. The Milwaukee Ax is designed for wood with nails, so it’s perfect for this job. I will add a link to the saw and blade in the comments below.
One of the long 2×4 sections from a large pallet had some cracks on both ends that needed to be repaired before proceeding. I added Titebond 3, spread the wood a few times to distribute the glue, and added more glue to the other side. I glued the two pieces together and let it dry. With the camera off, I added three 2½ inch screws directly into the ends of the 2×4 to help secure them.
Once the pallets were assembled, I started cutting the boards to rough lengths, which ended up being 31 inches long with the 45 degree miter. I went ahead and cut a 45 degree miter on each end, mostly because I didn’t want to reset part of the miter saw for each cut just to remove some of the material from each board. One thing to keep in mind is that pallet board has a lot of nails, so be careful where you cut. You want to cut a little off each end of the boards, because the ends are usually where the nails and cracks are concentrated.

When I cut the pallet boards to size, my husband gave them a quick 120 grit sandpaper with my orbital sander. I don’t want to remove too much strength from the boards, I want to prevent splinters from being a problem in the end. He also removed any visible nails.
For the legs, I kept it simple, cutting 2x4s into 30″ pieces and gluing and gluing them together to create 4×4 legs. The legs were sturdy and worked well for the build.

The last piece that needs to be cut is another 2×4 that will finish the outside of the table top. These two pages are cut to 37 inches, making the overall size of the final table approximately 74 x 37 inches.
