How To Make Round Seat Cushions – Today we’re going to show you how to reupholster dining chairs to make them look like new! This tutorial can also be useful if the chairs are already well upholstered but are unattractive or do not fit your space. If you choose the right upholstery, upholstered chairs can transform a dull, drab and old-looking dining room into a lively, elegant and cozy one.
There are a few things you need to set up before you can collect supplies. The type of upholstery plays an important role in the overall appearance of your dining room. So it is important to decipher what the theme of the dining room is and whether you want it to match or match. For example, if your walls are green, you should avoid red, which gives a harsh and unpleasant contrast.

In addition, pay attention to the size of your dining room when choosing the color of the material. A small room needs light colors to make it spacious and less cluttered. Ultimately, the choice must be determined by the frequency of use of the chair(s). Small children need heavier materials at home that do not wear easily or show stains.

Use tool/nail removal tool to remove and sand. My chair only had clips and I could get it out with a flat screwdriver and pliers. If nails are present, use this tool to remove them.
Cut the foam with an incredibly sharp serrated knife (think Infomercial knife demos) or an insulation knife. We used an incredibly sharp serrated kitchen knife!
Take the seat + foam and place it on top of the polyester wadding. Trace about 5 inches outside the edge and cut out.
How To Sew On A Curve
Secure the stapler under the batting by pulling it firmly. Tip: it is best to sew from both sides until there are about twelve stitches – that way the tension is even.
Position the seat so that the motif print is centered, balanced and allows at least 4 inches of protection underneath.
The print is still showing on the wrong side so I can see where to mark and cut to get the part I want for the seat cushion. Sew up, cut off the excess.

A tip. Pin to the batting before stepping to make sure the print is properly aligned.
This is optional, but recommended. Trace the seat cushion fabric cover, cut it out. Fold ½ the bottom and sew. Are your chairs and patio cushions looking a little sad after a long winter? Want to make a comeback for your patio cushions for summer? Just something to sit on to enjoy your DIY garden and birdhouse! I’ll show you how to do it…quick and easy.
First my story: I’ve wanted rocking chairs for my front porch for years. A few weeks ago, Greg bought us two beautiful wicker chairs. They were brown, that didn’t go with our house, so she painted them white for me. But the cushions were still the dull beige that originally came with the chairs. I am NOT a beige girl. So we went to the fabric store and looked for a bright and cheery fabric for the yard. But the fabric sat there for a while and I didn’t work on it at all. Sound familiar?
Ten Tips For Using Wobble Cushions In The Classroom And At Home
But yesterday afternoon was a great day and I knew it was time to get those pesky pillows back. It only took about an hour to receive both patio cushions from start to finish. This is a very easy sewing project… and if you don’t feel like sewing, there are ways to do that too. And my patio cushions weren’t even perfectly square. Let me show you how to restore patio cushions quickly and easily!

First, lay the fabric on a flat surface with the pattern facing up and place the patio cushion on top. Place the fabric of the patio cushion in the top corner with the back of the cushion near the top and leave enough room on the side for the fabric to wrap around the side of the patio cushion. If the fabric is too wide or too long, cut it immediately. Just make sure there is enough fabric on each side of the patio cushion (I left three extra inches on each side).
Then pull the fabric up and over the patio cushion so it covers it completely. Your material meets the above. Leave three inches of fabric on top, then cut off the excess.
Once the fabric is in place on the patio cushion, close both sides. If your pillow is tapered at the back like mine, I suggest you skip the last pin and mark in some other way, such as pins on both sides of the fabric where you would pin it (don’t pin it ) or a fabric marker.

In the photo above you can see that I marked the narrow top with pins instead of cutting it.
Now carefully pull out the pad. If your patio cushion tapers at the back like mine and is difficult to remove, simply roll up the patio cushion in the fabric and you can easily remove it.
Sew both sides together, then remove the pins. You can see my black stitch lines in the photo below.

Then put the patio cushion back into the fabric “envelope” (don’t turn the fabric right side out yet). Note the extra fabric in both front corners of the patio cushion. Sew the fabric from both corners so that it sticks to the pillow.
Remove the fabric from the pillow again and sew a line along the corner where you pinned. Remove the pins.
Now turn the fabric right side out and insert the pillow. In the photo below you can see how I rolled up the patio cushion to match the dust cover I made.

Press the patio cushion completely into the fabric. Look how beautiful this border is!
Now fold the rest of the fabric over the back of the patio cushion like you are wrapping a gift. Pin it in place.
I hope you can now see how easy it is to restore patio cushions. It took me 20 minutes max. If this patio cushion disappears, I’ll just get a new fabric and have it recycled. Goofy! I also made an upholstered headboard for these wicker rockers – if you’d like a tutorial for that, let me know in my sewing group here!

May 2020 Update: I returned these patio cushions over three years ago and they STILL hold it! But the material has disappeared because I always forget to take them with me for the winter. So it’s time to use this tutorial to bring them back again! The question is – what beautiful outdoor material should I use this time? Finding the material is more difficult than getting the cushions, because our craft shops are still not open. I guess I need to get creative!
I hope this tutorial has inspired YOU to restore patio cushions! I would love to see what you do to make yourself beautiful again. Share a photo in our Sew Easy Facebook group or #tag me on social media.
