How To Build A Bedside Table With Drawers – Learn how to make a DIY bedroom with a closet! For our bedroom decor, I knew I wanted to make a pair of DIY wooden headboards for each side of our bed. We use my old IKEA dresser for my side and a plastic dresser for Brandon haha! It was definitely time for an update! I am so excited that we have now created a really solid sleeping pair! And I love their modern rustic look! I have full instructions, videos, and printable construction plans below! To save money, these racks can be made with premium hardwood or pine lumber (2x2s and 1x6s). We actually built one with 2×2 fur boards and one with premium 2x2s. That’s about $90 in premium and $50 cheaper to build a tree. If you are using 2×2 ply boards, be sure to measure them if they are a little less than 1.5 inches thick like premium boards. If so, be sure to adjust the bottom measurements for this difference during construction. Make the master bedroom cutouts, click here for printable construction plans, cut list, and construction steps! Use a miter saw and make the following cuts from the 2×2s: (4) 2×2 @ 25 1/2″ (for sleeper legs) (6) 2×2 @ 13″ (for sleeper sides oh )(6) 2 × 2 @ 17″ (for front and back sleepers) Make the following cuts from the 1×6: (2) 1 × 6 @ 13 inch (for sleeper sides) (1 ) 1 × 6 @ 17″ (back of sleeper) Make the following cuts 1/2″ x 2″ x 3ft of board: (2) pieces @ 13″ (to install drawer slides on side of common cabinet) Use circular saw with straight edges or table 4 ft panel saw and cut @ 3/4” thick: 1 piece @ 16” x 20” (For the top of the bedroom) 2. Add Pocket Holes to the Tables It’s time to drill the pocket holes into our table using the Kreg Jig (also available here). If you need advice on using it, check out my Kreg Jig User Guide! Also, be sure to adjust your settings for different wood thicknesses below. Place pocket holes on each side of the following 2×2 boards: (6) 2×2 @ 13″ (6) 2×2 @ 17″ Two 2×2 @ 17″ Place two pocket holes for 3/4.″ wood on one side of the boards, As shown below. These holes are for attaching the 3/4″ panel top board to the nightstand frame. and add two pocket holes to each of the following 1×6 boards: (2) 1×6 @ 13″ (1) 1×6 @ 17″ 3. DIY Bedroom Side Frames Assemble two 2×2 @ 25 1/2″ boards to one of the Along with one 13″ 2×2 board in the corners using a drill bit and 2 1/2″ krag screws. Next, attach one of the 1×6 @ 13″ boards under the 2×2 @ 13″ with 1 1/4″ krag screws. Also, 1 add 1/4″ wood studs or two painter’s pushers placed under each side of the 1×6 so that it overlaps the edges of the 2x2s on the front side by 1/4″. To finish the side, 2×2 @ 13″ by 1×6 with 2 1. /2″ crag screws add 3 1/2″ above the bottom of the legs (which will be for the end of the shelf). Repeat the above steps to make the second bedroom. 4. Attach the back of the sleeper to the side frames Connect the two side frames together and form the back of the sleeper 2×2 @17″ (with 4 pocket holes) at the end by joining the top, bottom 1×.6 @ 17″ in the middle and another 2 × 2 @ 17 ″ below the 1 × 6. *Be sure to attach the top 2 x 2 @ 17″ (with the 4 pocket holes) so that the side pocket holes are facing up. Next, add the 2×2 @ 17″ for the bottom shelf, 3 1/2″ above the bottom of the side leg. 5. Attach the front of the bed to the side frames. Join the two frames side by side from the front of the ceiling with another 2×2 @ 17″ joint (with 4 pocket holes) on top of the side and front frames. On the inside again, make sure the pocket holes are facing up on the inside edge. Finally, add a 2×2 @ 17″ for the bottom shelf, 3 1/2″ above the bottom of the bedroom on the front side. At this point, make sure your bedroom is square so the drawer can be installed correctly. 6. Build and Install the DIY Nightstand It’s time to build the closet! Follow the instructions that came with your drawer slides for installation. I used these 12′ tray slides which I will explain below how I set up and built our tray. I used the same look for makeup. Note that you can use 14″ slides with this build, I used 12″ here as I already had a pair on hand. So if you’re using 14″, adjust the dimensions below accordingly. You can see all of these options in action in our DIY night video tutorial! Attach the left and right drawer sides of the drawer slides to the shelf. First, to attach our drawer slides to the shelf On the inside, we need to add wood from the inside so that a flat wood surface is installed.Slides.Cut 1/2″ plywood or 1/2″ wood boards (we used these 1/2″ boards) @ 13″ on the inside of the bedroom on both sides, 2× 2 @ 13″ at the bottom. 1″ into the wood. Screws. Make sure to insert the screws below the surface of the wood. Then, following the instructions on our drawer slide, we drew a line 3/4″ (thickness of our drawer front) + 1/16″ of our bedroom legs. From the front edge to our front left and right. This is where the cabinet front slides should be marked CL (cabinet left) and CR (cabinet right). Next, I marked the top 3/4″ 2×2 from the top to where it should be Bottom front edge of drawer slide.Inst The blueprints said to handle at least 1/2″, but I had a little extra clearance for our drawer box! From this mark we used a level and drew a line from the inside to the back. Place the center of the tray slide along this straight line. Before going in, use a small level on the drawer slide (you can use a clamp for this) and make sure it is level. After checking, drill the pilot holes and the tray slides with the screws embedded in the slides. Repeat on the other side. Building a Chest of Drawers Measure the opening between the left and right legs and subtract inches. It should be 16″ (17″ – 1″), just one measurement in case of variation. Then cut 1/4″ plywood to this 16″ width by 11 3/4″ length for the bottom of the drawers. We used a circular saw and a straight edge guide to cut the plywood. You can also use a table saw. Make a drawer box frame using 1×4. For the bottom of the 16″ x 11 3/4″ plywood, we made the following cuts: (2) 1 × 4 @ 14 1/2″ (2) 1 × 4 @ 11 3/4″ Insert pocket holes on both left sides. (2) 1x4s @ 14 1/2″ tack 1″ (be sure to drill pilot holes). Add the drawer slides to the drawer box Align the drawer slides to the sides of the drawers labeled DL (Left Drawers) and DR (Right Drawers). The blades of the drawer slides are attached to the front edge of the drawer
