I cheated on this build. I pre-made the table legs to get the curved shape I wanted. But to get the custom look I wanted, I modified the design, removed the legs, and added layers of bold carvings.

Using a pre-made wooden pedestal base from Osborne Wood Products makes this DIY table base even if you don’t have expensive tools. This DIY pedestal table base can have all the fancy lines made with a saw and a bandsaw.
Osborne also makes great coffee table legs. I used beautiful thick coffee table legs to make this DIY modern farmhouse chair / coffee table.

Diy Wood Pedestal Table Base
If the written steps are confusing, watch this short build video. Watching someone do something helps them understand instructions better. 🙂
However, you should sand it to a high grit and be very careful not to sand off any excess wood putty or wood glue that may be uneven.
The following steps do not contain complete steps. I have included them here to give you a better idea of how the base of this table is constructed. You can find the complete building steps in the free printable plans available in my Gumroad store.
Diy Dining Tables
Re-square the edges of the 2″ x 6″ pine boards on your table. You should work about 1/8 inch on each side.
Next, construct 2 large 2″ x 6″ squares. Use a miter saw to cut a 45 degree angle. If your saw isn’t big enough to cut the board, you can cut it with a circular saw or jigsaw.
I used Kreg Jig pocket holes and wood glue to join the four corners of this DIY table base.
How To Select The Perfect Dining Room Table
A piece of wood glue with clamps will probably be strong enough to hold the pieces together while drying; However, you don’t want to wait for the glue to dry before continuing.
Now make 2 small 2″ x 6″ squares. Following the same steps, cut out small squares of wood and assemble them.
Sand both squares with 150 grit before continuing. Milling these squares is easier before installation than after.

Finally, cut 2 to 3/4 inch squares of MDF or plywood. These are invisible, so use what you have on hand. These squares add height to the base of this wooden table.
Glue and screw the small 1 1/2″ thick pine squares to the base of the Osborne wooden pedestal. Old screws – Use 2 1/2″ screws to attach the small square to the Osborne pedestal.
Make sure it is centered before attaching them. Also make sure these screws are sunk at least an inch into the bottom of the small 3/4 inch square foot.
How To Choose The Right Dining Table For Your Home
The use of glue and screws makes this DIY stand durable for decades.
Now Brad will glue and nail the square of the larger 3/4″ thick square to the bottom of the smaller 1 1/2″ thick square. Then you are ready to add the bottom square. Drill 4 holes in the bottom of the larger square.
This time attach the larger square to the base with 4 x 3 inch screws. Also make sure everything is centered.

The 3″ screws can be 3″ Kreg screws or 3″ #8 self-tapping screws. These screws are long enough to go under, through, and part of the top step of the square.
Carefully measure where the screws will go; Make sure they are at least one inch inside this square. These screws will add extra strength to your DIY table base.
Video underlays look best on stitched and printable plans. Here is a closer look at the lower layers of the foundation. You can see the 1 1/2″ square above the 3/4″ square. And they sit on a larger 1 1/2 inch square. It’s like starting by gluing a wreath to the base of a DIY round dining table.

First, unscrew and remove the bolts that hold the Osborne ships and the base to the base. Then attach the 3/4″ thick square to the base with glue and nails.
Make sure they are flush with the bottom edges. Then glue and screw a 1 1/2 inch thick square to the pedestal.

Carefully measure where the screws will go; Make sure there is at least one inch inside this 8 inch square. Then glue and screw the 1 1/2″ thick square on top of this 3/4″ square.

The Complete Guide To Table Dimensions
Now it’s time to add the final cut and shaping. This part of the table build was inspired by a photo from the Instagram account @Hammerari.
I saw him trying to figure out how to mold others. You might recognize him as the very talented handyman from HGTV’s Windy City Rehab.
Before we start, let’s talk about shaping. You can find PVC or MDF versions of this mold. However, in this case it is recommended to use solid wood. Because it is strong and sands easily, it gives a nice smooth surface.

Round Custom Made Solid Wood Dining
DESIGN NOTE: Low rise to ensure a calm and roomy look. We also chose legs that were too small to fit under the table and didn’t tip over easily. I put a 42 inch round top on this pedestal.
I think this size pedal works with 41″ by 44″ round tables. If you want a taller dresser, I would size the place so it doesn’t tip as easily when someone steps on the edge of the table.
I then added a few layers of beads and cut out a pattern for the bottom of the felt table.

I used leftover beaded T&G boards from DIY Kids Play Kitchen. If you don’t want to buy an entire T&G board, you can substitute anything like 1/4 inch plywood.
