How To Build A Farmhouse Kitchen Table – Summer often inspires us with a project or two. George Lehaf of Makers Best Friend did some work in the kitchen to liven up his new space. Follow along as he shows us step by step how he created this garden dining table.

How To Build A Farmhouse Kitchen Table
We will start by cutting the pieces of wood to size for assembling the table top. The table in the picture shows the size of wood to be cut for each piece of wood. You’ll only need a manual circular saw to cut the wood, but you can also use a miter saw and a table saw if you have one!
Reasons You Need A Farmhouse Kitchen Table
Using a circular saw or table, cut slots 3.5 inches wide by 1.5 inches deep in each leg post (part D) 6 inches from the bottom of the posts. Use scissors to cut away any remaining wood in the corners and make sure the supports are positioned correctly afterwards.
Attach the flat outer leg (part E) and the flat top leg – short end (part H) to the leg supports (part D) to form two parts. The bottom edge should fit into the bottom edge you cut earlier. The top edges should match the leg racks. Use a combination of screws and wood glue or your own method to attach the top brackets. And only woodworking glue for attaching the base to the cut grooves.
Use a hand circular saw or a table saw with a dado blade to cut the center slots in the sides of the frame. The center hole should be 3.5 inches wide and 1.5 inches deep and should be 13 inches from each post.

Use a combination of screws and wood glue (or your preferred attachment method) to attach the wood to the top and bottom of the table. For the top, you can use it outside or inside the table, depending on the design you want. In this design, I glued the top on the inside so it wouldn’t be visible at the end. The top boards should be attached to the top of the supports. The bottom flap should fit snugly against the bottom flap that was cut in step one.
Attach the table top pieces (parts B and C) using a combination of screws and wood glue. You can choose any gluing method for this part, but make sure each piece is flat on both sides and glue so that the edge is even.
After attaching the seven pieces of wood to get the width of the table, attach the two end pieces (Part A). This step is optional for extending the table. Make sure the top of the top and the rest of the board are the same as in the first step. You can use standard screws and wood glue as shown here, or any attachment method of your choice!

If you decide to use mounting holes, make sure you drill the holes with metal and drill them into the wood with a flat saw!
For the countertop, add a mixture of white paint as a base coat. Then mix half white wash with half Varathane white stain and apply to the entire table. This results in a grey/dark brown color as seen in the pictures. For the rest of the table supports, use white paint to create a nice table contrast.
Attach the table top to the table frame. Use the appropriate screws so that you can remove the worktop in the future if necessary. Make sure the top is in the middle of the frame.
Round Farmhouse Table
After the paint and varnish are dry, apply several coats of Shellac Finish and Sealer. I used a total of seven tables for this table. This ensures that the table will not absorb water over time, will not stain and is easy to clean!
The final step is to smooth the entire board with a series of sandpaper. Start with 300 grit paper and work your way up to 4000 grit paper and a little finer. This will give the table a glassy finish that is smooth to the touch!

This lovely living room table can be made from pine wood, which is easily available in local supermarkets, and can be adjusted to almost any length or width. You can also paint or stain the table any color you want.
The first step is to choose a table. All the wood you need to make a dining table and garden chairs can be found at your local big box store. You’ll need a bunch of 4×4 boards for the table and chair legs, 2×10 for the table top, 2×8 for the chair, and some smaller boards for the beams and legs.

Inspect each board to make sure it is level and straight. This is particularly relevant to the tables from which the table tops and chairs will be made. You want it to be as smooth and flawless as possible. This will significantly reduce the penalty time later.
Note the 2×8 on the seats – it’s cheaper to get a 10′ cut in half since the seats will be 4.75′ or you’ll need 8×8′ boards

Set up your miter saw and cut all the boards from the cut list to the appropriate pieces. I prefer to use a clamping table with a built-in brake unit with screw supports to ensure a precise and consistent cut. Check out my projects for making your own boat and horse board. Here we will make all the cuts, except for the tables which will be the tables and the countertops.
After you have made all the straight crosses, set the saw at 45 degrees. Use a stop block and make all the cuts at a 45 degree angle on the table legs
The next step is to start the bandsaw or jigsaw and cut a circular pattern on the legs of the wooden table and chairs. I made an example using the curvature of a coffee lid and checked the same pattern on the right side of each 4×4.

This step is very optional. You can always go for a more square or triangular design, but I think a round top makes a farmhouse dining table stand out and look more unique and homely. , as I rarely see this design for sale.
Here it is important to make a relief, or cut perpendicular to the line you are cutting. This allows the bandsaw blade to rotate without tearing the wood, which can burn and cut unevenly.
Cut with an appropriately wide blade, so I used a 3/8″ wide blade which was a little too wide for this curve. I recommend going slower and using a sharp knife to tighten the curve if your little one won’t fit

Measure and print the frame of your 2×4 for the top of the support, then cut it out with a hacksaw. It should be thick, strengthen the board.
You can also cut a 45 degree angle on this board with a miter saw. I recommend providing support
