Slipcover For Slipper Chair How To Make – A few years ago, my mother-in-law gave me two very beautiful armchairs in a solid shade of blue. I always loved them. It didn’t hurt that it was new and free!

Lately I’ve been looking to brighten up my living room. We don’t have a ton of natural light in there, so I started with these chairs. (Ssh…don’t tell him, but that cabinet is on my hit list too.)

Just one evening, a new feeling appeared to me, and it was not difficult to do. To save costs, I use a cloth wrap, which I spray like Miss Mustard Seed. I bought a 12 x 15 but only used half of it for these two chairs. It worked well though because I only half-baked it!

To cover this chair, I decided to follow the original seam lines of the chair, so this cover is a center piece from front to back and two side panels.

To begin, I printed my fabric on the chair, covering the back of the chair with the bottom front:

Note that I put a small strip of fabric between the back of the seat and the bottom of the seat, so I need to secure something there to hold the cover in place.

I just printed my side panel. I pinned it in place with two straight pins to anchor it while attaching it to the middle panel.

Here you can make the necessary changes. I tried it right away, looking for some different poker, and there were a few places I didn’t like. I turned it inside out again, put it back together, loosened the seams in a couple of places, and put it back together. After sewing it is better on another test.

Once I was happy with the fit, I cut a quarter inch of fabric in the seams. Then I sealed my seam by sewing a zig-zag stitch in a wide width all the way around. If you skip this step, you will loosen the seam after washing. (I may not have learned this lesson the hard way.)

Since I was going for a casual look, I chose not to add piping, but I sewed it twice, you can see the details here:

For the skirt, I used the circle of the chair twice. Because of this I sewed two strips to the length I needed.

I folded it, sewed the bottom hem, then folded it again to make a clean seam:

To add the hem, I started by folding the bottom edge of my tie cover. (If your sanding cover goes over the bottom edge of the seat, you’ll need to attach it first.)

I love adding like this because I can see the finished product as I go and make any changes I need before I get to my sewing machine.

Then I sewed it in place. Also, a quarter inch from the edge.

I may remove the covers later if I want to show off the blue again, but for now it brightens up my room! As you can see in the upper left corner I tried to paint one of them, but the raised circles in various brown colors didn’t paint well, so I quickly finished and left them to be free for a year. Someone asked me if the chair was on fire. Who half painted a chair and left it idle for a year? What a shame.

She has a very detailed tutorial on how to sew armless chair covers and I found myself referencing her posts here and there as I made mine. Plus, I know he made a cover for his entire sofa. This girl knows what she’s talking about when it comes to cover ups!

The basic principle of making a tie cover is simple – fold the fabric, turn it wrong side out, lay it on the piece and attach it to the chair.

The pieces are then cut to fit the different sides of the chair, and the pieces are joined, so that the pins are attached to the edge of the chair.

Before removing the fabric, I drew a line along the cut to indicate where to sew.

Then it’s easy to sew the pieces, turn them right out and test the fit. I usually have to do a few tweaks at this point to get the timers to fit properly or just right, but usually the fit is pretty tight.

I really used Christy’s post to help me make a “skirt” that is because this is a first for me. I hate using my iron, but it’s necessary when working with these dishes.

This fabric from Minted is amazing to work with. It’s about the same weight as home decor fabric you’d find at an art store. When I opened the package my stomach sank at first when I thought why I had chosen a bright white fabric to cover the ugly brown stain. But I have to tell you, this fabric hides that pattern beautifully. Well done!

I still have some sewing to do for another chair, but I’m excited to see this fabric find new life in these chairs. Although there are a few kinks here and there, and the back skirt is a bit uneven, I’m happy with the end result. Hopefully I can fix the minor bugs when I do the second one.

I have to admit that cutting a beautiful piece of fabric for fear of ruining everything can be scary. If you’ve never sewn a tie cover before, you may want to test the technique on a small piece or something small like a dress shirt before using the fabric you like. you I also made another quilt cover, but it made the process less tedious because I used a smaller bag!
