How To Make A Grass Chair
I’ve been noticing macrame jewelry a lot more lately. I love macrame and the macrame chair is one of those DIY projects I’ve always wanted to try. In the spirit of decluttering and decluttering my home, I decided to redo some of my lawn chairs that have seen the road many summers. The chairs have a complete metal frame and just need new ropes, making them perfect candidates for macramé chairs.

When looking for inspiration for macrame patterns, I noticed that there is a great lack of detailed patterns. So, I decided to experiment and create my own design. I’ve gone ahead and imitated it so you don’t have to go through the same exhaustive search I did. You can download it HERE (for free) to get started with your macrame chair.
To start the chair, place the rolls of cable on the floor inside the chair frame. This is the easiest thread transfer throughout the weaving process. Starting at the bottom seat frame, make a double knot, leaving about 6 inches of slack at the end. Note that you will be knitting straight parts of the chair frame, leaving the rounded edges exposed.
Now run the cable up, under the middle bar and up on the frame. (See image below)

Then follow the cord through the top of the chair frame and pull it out. Pull the hook through the loop you just made. Be sure to pull the string firmly so the hook doesn’t fall off. Also, make sure the loop is in the thickest part of the hook so you can pull the hook through next time. Trust me, it will make your life a lot easier!
Run the strap down, under the center bar and over the front of the seat frame. Wrap the loop on the frame and pull it out of the first pair of cables. As you did before, push the hook through the loop, letting it rest on the flat part of the hook. Pull out the cord and continue.
