The first step is to make sure I have enough wood to make the table. The size I need… 72”L x 30”W. You might think it’s narrow, but I’m new to narrow tables. I think they are very conversational and simple, so I call them community table sizes. 6. Before flipping the table over, Danny and I attached rubber bands to the bottom legs to raise the table and prevent water from sinking into the deck over time. Since the cedar is so soft, we added DAP tank braces to prevent the bumper bolts from slipping or loosening over time.

7. Then, sanding and preparing to finish the table. We decided to fill all the knots and grooves on our table with DAP Tank Bond Clear Epoxy .

While I originally thought of many different styles for this outdoor dining table, I ultimately settled on a very simple design.

Reason? The simple placement of the legs allows for a perfect fit while keeping the dimensions to match the existing carpet that I wanted to keep. In other words, my goal is to seat as many people as possible without extending the length of the table beyond the carpet I’m working on.

From a visual perspective, I believe the simple yet rustic feel works well with the overall modern farmhouse aesthetic, but more importantly, I believe this design will be the most functional for our family (especially the new dining chairs we added to the table. . . – to this mama’s boy there are no cushions or clean cloths to keep happy).

While I briefly considered painting the table black, I was concerned that the paint would chip easily and require a lot of maintenance.
