Start by completing the love embroidery. I decided to use a different color than the one that came with the kit to coordinate better with the fabric I chose. I mostly followed the instructions in the kit.
Note: I chose not to use lazy daisies. This is because it is difficult to place the yarn exactly on the outlined blue line. I found it better with plain stitches.
Spring Bee Quilted Table Runner Pattern
Here is the list of colors I used and the DMC thread color codes for those interested.
Cut a piece of fabric about 1 inch wide and slightly longer from the embroidery fabric. Sew and trim the short edge with a 1/4″ seam. Then sew the long edge. Trim and press flat.
Sew two 9-inch nine-patch blocks together. Each block starts with 9 different pieces of fabric cut into 3 1/2 inch squares. Fat quotas work well for this. See the tutorial for detailed instructions.

Add white pieces (2 1/2″ X 9 1/2″) above and below each of the 9 patches. Sew with a 1/4-inch seam, then press flat.
Add white pieces (2 1/2″ X 11 1/2″) evenly spaced to the top and bottom of the embroidery block.
Sew a 2 1/2-inch block to each end of the remaining white strip. Place one on each end of the table runner and one in the center of each block.
Quilt As You Go Patterns
Now it’s time to add more skill. Running stitches are added to the edges of the nine patches. Totally optional, but I like the results.
I took a ruler and placed it about 1/4 inch from the seam, then ran a dot stitch in a straight line along the edge. This is a great way to make marks without damaging the fabric or leaving unsightly marks.
Cut the front and back before stitching. Using the top piece as a guide, cut a piece of batting and fabric for the back piece.

Originally, I wanted to sew the whole thing so that the stitches would be visible on the back. But I don’t like the way it looks.
So I pinned the batting on top and sewed the two together with a running stitch. I used 3 strands of #3328 yarn.
See the black dotted line at the bottom? This is a sewing seam. (Note that no communication takes place here)

Now it’s time to sew instead of binding. I used double fold ribbon quilt binding. A 3-yard bundle with a little slack is just the right amount. You can create your own contact by following this tutorial.
This is probably the hardest part to explain. Watch the video if you need more help.
Start at least 3-4 inches from the corner. Secure the binding and sew 1/2 inch from the end.

The binder is then twisted, folded and worked until a corner is formed. Secure the corner, then secure the binder to the next corner.
Continue until you are back where you started. To finish the ends, tie about 1/2 inch and fold under it. Use a needle to replace it.
Finally, I added a stitch running along the binding to hold it all together. I didn’t want to sew all the layers.

I made sure I had enough thread to sew through one length (again three threads). I knotted the ends, tucked them under the cut corners, and carefully sewed the top layer of the binding together. When I got to the end, I put the knot back in the corner.
