I used solid maple, but you can use any quality plywood. In particular, the Baltic birch makes a very suitable path.

Screw the first two floors to the front clamp block with #6 flathead screws. These physically secure the clamp blocks to the rails.
The pin is 3/8″ which fits nicely in the axle block, but the hole in the cam handle needs to be a little larger to rotate freely. I drilled the hole with a 64/25″ bit and a 3/8″ drop, then cut it.
