How To Connect Double Wall Socket

How To Connect Double Wall Socket – So I turned off the power at the electrical panel and opened the outlet and you’d think the actual ground wire wasn’t there. (see picture)

Now all the plugs and wiring were done in the last 4/5 years when we bought the house and did all the gut work and extensions.

How To Connect Double Wall Socket

All sockets work fine except two on the wrong wall (I have 3, two near the TV, one socket has no ground and one socket in the corner of the wall also has a ground) – (fixture sockets “work”, just no ground)

How To Install A Gfci Outlet

I don’t know why it sparks with two plugs and each plug has a ground.

I’m leaning towards making it safer and putting a blank plate on the outlet. I have a lot of grip around both so she doesn’t notice the difference.

To peep the sparkle. I have completed my tutorial and I am definitely not up to date with the latest version, but some things are wrong? Not sure if the cable looks like T&E but the ground is snapped inside the outer insulation? I don’t think there is any way that an electrician could connect an outlet without a ground? Also where to ride? Looks like that was the outlet cable?

Do other outlets have parts of the main circuit connecting 2 or 3 wires? Can you isolate this circuit from the rest of the main circuit with a fuse board switch? Make sure not to use it until it has been checked by a qualified person.

Agree that it is very elusive. Every outlet I opened was properly plugged in. I don’t think he even bothered to ground it.

The second TV slot is the same one that is missing on land. But the plug next to it is properly connected. All other outlets have 9 or 3 incoming wires. Everything else works fine. It is installed like this with only two sockets.

I remember a slight “hum/hum” coming from the case of the device when plugged into the outlet. However, Iv not used this hold for the past year. I think a part of me knew something was wrong.

I sent someone to look and I already bought blind tiles to cover it.

If ungrounded outlets are fine, can you ground them? Definitely recommend Sparky. Anyway, good luck solving it.

Fortunately, there is a lot of slack in the wire, so it should be possible to remove the insulation and expose the ground conductor. But your real sparky needs to find the other end of the wire. God knows what other heinous* deeds have been done.

I rebuilt the whole house and built an extension. At the end of the job, I found the FAQ, but my gut tells me it only covers extensions. There is no reason to leave two sockets in this state when the others appear to be properly connected. If I may guess, Chief Sparky had another job and someone else was doing two jobs.

I don’t know how some people can sleep at night knowing they are putting someone’s family at risk.

Looking at the picture, I’m wondering if this spur is (illegally) connected to 2 twisted-pair power wires, not a dual ground.

Where are the sockets run from eg is it possible to run a T&E cable to replace what is currently there which certainly doesn’t look like 2.5mm T&E?

Click to expand… No idea Chris, that job is left to the builders and electricians. The only time I spent at the house during gutting was overseeing false wall construction and also running AV and audio cables… even said a simple exhaust tester during the inspection. Lesson learned for next time.

I think it looks like a T&E, but for most of the figure we’re looking at a “short and round” edge, but it seems to flatter the curves.

A ring mains socket should normally have 6 wires (2 x live, 2 x neutral and 2 earth). The eyelet has a looped main loop, 9 at one end and 3 at the spur end This, except for the missing ground wire, I think is consistent with what you are seeing.

Is the missing ground plug new? It seems the two new sockets were added as spurs for some reason because it was easier for “people” to plug in and only have to run one wire to each socket. Who knows why there is no ground connection, who knows if someone does.

If it’s a T&E wire, there’s a bare ground wire in the middle, unless Muppet pulls it off somehow. It appears to be connected to the other end so it should be a relatively easy fix for an electrician to use some slack and re-close and then re-test. It will not need to be torn.

Which fuse box switch is connected to an ungrounded socket? It would be interesting to know if they are connected to the same head ring or a separate switch, in which case the switch can be turned off. The RCD will not operate if there is an earth fault in these sockets.

Now I’m not a UK resident but I can’t for the life of me understand why electrical work is done this way. Since you’re using cable instead of conduit with pulled wires, it’s easier and safer, and in this case just passing through the missing wire (ground in this case) is enough. This is how it is done where I live (Iceland) and most if not most Scanias. Eager

Some (plastic) pipes reduce cable amplitude because the cable cannot stay cool under heavy loads.

Yes, I have seen quite a few that scare me. Here in Iceland we use individual cables, not pipelines. It makes everything a lot easier on channels.

It seems to me that a man was let go and thought that the ground was not his to use because it was not heated.

Very bad job, definitely try to find out who it is and report it to Trading Standards (easy way I think)

The Best Plug In Smart Outlet

Hi Killbill118, speaking as an electrician, I’m 98% sure the wire is double stranded and grounded and 99.9% sure the outlet was not connected by a qualified electrician. Although the outlet is only dangerous if you’re connecting something that needs a ground, the thing that would worry me the most (with this level of poor workmanship) is what’s been done with the other end of the wire and shorting it into an existing circuit.

Did you mention that your house has been remodeled? You should have obtained an electrical installation certificate and a certificate of conformity for the wiring conversion (and extension work) (I see you’re in England?) If this outlet was part of the wiring it would never have passed any tests.

If you think so, could you please post a photo of the exterior of your utility unit, which is usually indicative of any home installation.

Looking at the two pictures in post #17, I think I’d be much more worried about the two missing ground wires. You really need a qualified electrician to fix anything,
