Measuring 20 x 10 inches, these drink trays are the perfect size to hold many summer drinks while being under $10 each! (It’s not a bad idea to pick up a few spares, just in case you need to replace them down the road.)

If you can’t find these ice boxes or don’t have a pantry nearby, you can buy a similar one cheaply here or on Amazon – you just have to plan ahead and set up the holes and supports. Different lengths and widths, so pay attention to the drawn woodworking plan before starting construction.

A good choice for outdoor furniture, cedar is more expensive than the Douglas fir we chose for the table you’re about to see.

The Home Depot in our area carries Douglas fir, but only in 2×8 and 2×6 materials, so we used cedar for the 4×4 posts.

Regardless of the type of wood you choose, several coats of a quality sealer are essential to protecting your table and bench, not only from Mother Nature, but also from our children who will inevitably eat dinner and dessert on it.

We chose to stain our table in American walnut, then finished it with several coats of water-based urethane spar in a semi-gloss finish. (See more information for more information).

We came up with a similar idea, but felt we could improve the design to create a more durable and robust product that could withstand extreme weather cycles.

For this reason, we do not recommend pre-pruning your tree. We find it best to cut when working on a design, which gives you the freedom to make small adjustments as needed and ensures a durable table.

As with all woodworking plans, be sure to read all the steps to build the cooler bench and patio table plan before cutting and building.

How To Build A Large Expandable Outdoor Patio Table

For each tool and step, start by cutting half a meter from the end of the board. Always do this first step when cutting a new board, as it will give you a clean, smooth custom finish.

During construction, sand each part of the patio table and sand all edges, corners and edges. It will be easier to sand each piece before assembling the table.

Most sanding can be done with a 120 grit orbital sander. Dirty spots may require 80-grit sandpaper.

After recording each part, we recommend painting that part. It’s easier to paint the parts than it is to assemble the entire patio table.

Staining at assembly intervals (as indicated on the woodworking plan) also helps ensure that the stain does its job of protecting and waterproofing the wood so your table will last in the elements.

Pay attention to holes and screws during construction. Place a clamp like this over the first hole to keep the seedling level. Tighten the craig screws in place.

Continue to tighten each screw you put in to make sure the pieces are close together. This is especially important when making the table top, so that the pieces remain light and have a smooth and even surface.

Creating your own plinths is easy using 4×4 plinths, a table saw and wood anchors. Full details are included in the woodworking plan, but we’ve provided an overview here because it’s a popular woodworking tip to save money on table legs.

Make the legs, then attach them to the table using diagonal braces and screws. This system makes it easy to remove the bases for storage or transport.

To create a smooth surface, set the blade on the table at 45 degrees. Make a pencil mark so you know how much to cut. Set the table rail at 2 3/4-in.

On the new flat surface, measure and mark the location of the wood anchor. (These should fit the brackets made in the next step.) Using a 7/16-inch drill bit, drill holes about 1/2 inch apart.

To attach the legs, make diagonal supports that connect to the sides, cut from 2 x 4 at a 45 degree angle at each end.

In the middle of the diagonal, using a 1/2-inch dowel, mark the same location for the wood post anchors and mounting holes. Attach the support to the back using screws and attach the legs to the diagonal support using screws and washers.

Since we used Douglas fir wood, which is a softer wood, we preferred to use a cooler to better show off the clothes.

About 15 minutes after cleaning out the fridge and wiping off the excess, I applied an oil-based wood stain with a foam brush.

When the stain was dry, I applied three coats of this urethane spar, very lightly between coats with a fine sponge.
