After drawing the pattern on paper, I cut a matching piece of wood from the basement and patterned it, and Andre cut it with a jigsaw. I sanded it with wood grain paper and various sandpapers from 80 to 320. To attach the lamp socket to the branch, we attached it to a short length of copper pipe using metal glue. Before connecting the two parts together, we reduce the copper pipe to the right size, attach the lampshade to the lamp base, hold it to the branch by hand, see how we want the lampshade to stand on the base and add it. Using this tutorial, I covered the lampshade with fabric left over from the bedroom curtains and Natalia’s chair. I noticed that I could still see the lines of the lampshade in the new fabric, so I covered it with a dark fabric (checked the other lamp first to make sure it didn’t look weird when it’s on) and then painted it yellow. Again I used regular emulsion (same color as the yellow chair in the guest room, which I originally chose to match the yellow and white curtains) – no special dye was needed to apply the fabric because it wasn’t. It does not matter if the fabric is difficult.

All in all, this project should take about four hours of work, including drying time for paint and glue, and about a month of babysitting. Sure, it would be much faster to drive to Ikea and just buy a light bulb, but then again, I’m pretty sure Ikea doesn’t sell things.
