How To Make A Plastic Table Look Nice

How To Make A Plastic Table Look Nice – Hello friend! miss me 🙂 I know it’s been a while!! I took a little break from the blog while we worked on getting the house ready for our second son’s graduation. We shouldn’t have done it before the end but it was a good incentive. We had planned to finish this renovation years ago after our first son graduated, but honestly we got a little lazy. 😉 The home reno is almost finished and I will share it with you soon. But first, I wanted to share our garage graduation party ideas.

We had our first son’s graduation party in the backyard, but it was very windy that day, making it difficult to decorate the party. Mr. Wonderful offers to hold a party in the garage. At first I wasn’t too excited about the idea of having a garage party, but in the end it was great!!

My biggest problem with this is that I didn’t want all of our “junk” in everyone’s garage. Not that we have a very crowded garage or anything, but it doesn’t look very good. The designer in me wanted a well-designed theme party, of course! 😉 Here are a few ideas we used at our party that help make the garage less expensive I might add. Grant!!

I was looking on Pinterest for solutions to hide our trash and saw how some people hang plastic tablecloths or curtains on the side of the garage to make it look fun. The pictures I saw of colorful tablecloths on the walls were too colorful for me, so I chose plain white tablecloths. I think it looks classy that way too.

We measured the distance of the sides of the garage we were going to cover and I needed about 21 tablecloths. I knew you could get them at the dollar store but I found them at Walmart that come in a 3 pack for 2.47!

I wanted them to hang and ring like real curtains instead of straight plastic. To do this, we tie a small rope / string to the side of the garage. We used small hooks that were tied to the ceiling to hold the rope. Our garage is partially finished so it didn’t matter to us to put the hooks in there. You can always use the command hook if you run out.

To hang the “curtains,” Mr. Wonderful folded the edge of the tablecloth over the string and attached them. He used clothespins to help with the process. We wanted to roll it up like a curtain, we didn’t tape the entire length. We use clear packing tape and cut it into small pieces. Mr. W will put clothes on the line at the beginning and middle of the map to secure the map from the beginning. He will then tape the beginning and middle and then put 3 more pieces of tape. Once the first part of the map was secured, he would slide down the rope and work on the second part.

Here’s a tip we learned… make sure you don’t hold the film too tight or it won’t stick to the tablecloth. We had a few areas to fix the next day. After we replaced the tape we put in a new one, untouched, it lasted a week!

I love how the curtains turn out. We raved about them and some people thought they were real fabric curtains! Ha! It looked classy and hid all our junk! Job done! 🙂

Now that the white curtains are ready, I wanted to add a nice festive backdrop to add some color. This background was really easy and cheap to make. It works as a great background image and can be used for that purpose only. However, we put it behind the dining table as decoration. I ordered these large balloons for 2019 because I wanted a backdrop to make a statement. They came with numbered kits, light gold balloons and confetti, and a gold curtain.

You can clearly see in the pictures that our school colors are purple and gold. We have some decorations left over from the end of number #1 such as paper lanterns, balloons and streamers. We had different shades of purple with all the new decorations and decorations so I decided to embrace the different shades. This allowed me to use our yellow design with gold balloons. I love how the background brings all the shades of purple and gold together.

To create the background, we cut streamers of different colors to the length of the 8-foot table. We then decided how long we wanted the backdrop to be (based on the size of the wall we were putting it on) and attached a strip of packing tape to some of the tables. We taped the end of the tape to the table so it doesn’t slide on us while we’re doing it. We changed two shades of purple. Then add yellow streamers to all of the third purple. Finally we cut individual strips of gold curtain and attached some to the purple streamers.

We added another long strip of packing tape over the first strip to join the streamers between them and secure everything together. Finally, we wrapped the end of the ribbon over the string that held the plastic curtains and used bungee clips to hold it in place.

Instead of adding helium to the 2019 balloons (which I’ve heard can be very expensive!), we decided to inflate them with our air compressor and hang them from small hooks from the ceiling. It worked perfectly!

Globe lights make any space look better, don’t they? They automatically give the place a party atmosphere. We used this in our backyard for a recent graduation party and I have to share some pictures because it looked great! especially in the evening. 😉

This time we hung them from the garage ceiling using small hooks. We just went back and forth with them on the folding pattern. They help add some festiveness and take the wrinkles out of garage door eyes. Ha!

I can’t take credit for this step! While I was making the cakes the morning of the party, Mr. Wonderful was hanging 2019 balloons in the garage. I didn’t really have any plans for other balloons so they came up with this great idea! Aren’t they beautiful!?

They were like little chandeliers over the dining table! They were so cute! I love how they all stand out when they combine different colors.

Again, these balloons did not contain helium, so we hung them from the ceiling. If you don’t want to make a lot of holes in your garage ceiling, you can use small command hooks as an alternative. He simply put two inflated balloons together to make it. He repeated this two more times with each set using six balloons. He then went two sets to make a cross. Then he took the third and wrapped the two. You can rotate it slightly to secure the cluster if needed. Tie the string to the hanging bundle and VOILA! 🙂 A great inexpensive party decoration!

We served a buffet at our event. If you’re not from the Midwest, you may not be familiar with the term taverna (aka loose-meat sandwich). They are like sloppy joes only not as dirty. I would describe them more like a ground beef sandwich. They don’t make a lot of noise but they are very cute! I have to share the recipe here on the blog. 🙂 We used an inflatable buffet refrigerator to keep salads and vegetables cool. Along with other chips and fruit and dips, this would make a great spread.

We arranged the fruit in a 3-tiered tray. They looked great and were a fun and easy way to display fruit. We will also serve sliced fruits with a delicious fruit dip.
