I used 4x props to make a plaster mold and used that mold twice. These pieces are then incorporated into the finished table, thereby reducing wood waste.
For the rest: I scrubbed and rinsed the support area, then placed it on a flat, firm, level surface covered with thick plastic. I then took some clay and filled the joints between the wood and the plastic to make sure the plaster wouldn’t leak and the mold wouldn’t settle.
I didn’t hesitate to use rubbing alcohol to remove bubbles or swirl the plaster after it was cast, as I used the flat bottom as the finished part of the table.
