I decided to make one beautiful piece of oak that needs to be found. A wonderful piece of oak was listed on eBay (EJTimbers) for £35 (plus shipping under $12 Sep 2021).

The size of the table top was a bit unusual due to the available space. It is a gap of 600 to 400 mm. Now this is a sorted board from a local DIY store purchase. It is cut to size to create a template.
Once the mold is complete and the wood is prepared, the amount of resin can be calculated. The method used was to divide the hole into small parts. These can then be calculated by adding the simple LxWxH volumes found.
It is very important to use epoxy because some manufacturers turn yellow with age. Additionally, Epodex was my preferred supplier due to the curing time and temperature range (DU) of the resin during casting.

Since this was the first time that resin was used in such quantities, the initial cost was much higher than for the future table. Faucets, mixing cups, mixers, dosing syringes, etc. increased costs. But I hoped the result would be worth it.
From the reactions of family members and of course myself, it sure was if you consider that it was a solid wood (and of course resin) nightstand. What do you think?

Epoxy Resin River Table Diy Plans
I actually use these epoxy riverboard tips and woodworking techniques on custom furniture for my clients.
Even if you don’t need an epoxy board, the techniques in this DIY tutorial are directly transferable to other epoxy or woodworking projects.

Diy Epoxy Resin River Table With Live Edge Wood (tutorial)
For starters, it contains blue resin glitter powder to make the river of resin glow in the dark without a light.
Additionally, I incorporated blue fire glass into the epoxy to add some cool effects. More on this later..

Customize Epoxy Resin Table River Table Resin Table
The piece of Living Edge Sinking Cypress I used for this resin river board project was 48 inches long and about 20 inches wide.
I sanded down the live edge of the cypress sinker to get straight edges, a flat surface, and square ends.
Apparently the live edge on either side of the wood panel prevented me from using a table saw fence.
Live Edge Single River Epoxy Table
First I read the grain pattern and located the center of the board by measuring front, center and back.
I then attached the cypress sinker to the jig using clamps, took my table saw blade and slowly pushed it through.
I then used my orbital sander with 120 grit sandpaper to remove loose debris from all the live edges.
The Wrong Way To Make A River Table
I attached the straight side of each piece of cypress to my miter saw fence and cut off each end.
I used silicone to seal the bottom of each live edge (lengthwise) to prevent the epoxy from leaking.
For this project, I decided to feed the board from the underside of my table as a tub to catch any leaking epoxy.

The underside of the table has 5 12″ pieces of 2×4 that stick out vertically to hold different sized pieces.
I wanted this epoxy river table to look like the other table for coordinating/decorating purposes, but I also wanted it to be unique.
To avoid potential disaster, I tested the glitter powder to check the color before mixing it with the epoxy.
How To Make Your Own Epoxy River Table
Art n Glow included a black light with my purchase that I used to test the color of the powder.
For this epoxy resin river table, I used ProMarine Table Top Epoxy because I had a lot left over.
I mixed 24 ounces of epoxy (12 ounces of hardener and 12 ounces of resin) according to the manufacturer’s instructions on their website.

A ratio of 1 to 12 gives a medium glow, while a ratio of 1 to 6 gives a bright glow.
After 24 hours, I mixed another 24 oz of epoxy and 2 oz of luster powder for the second pour.
The size of my container and stir stick allows me to easily mix 24 oz of material in one mix.
Building A Glass River Table
The sandpaper I used was 80, 100, 120, 150, 180 and 220.
After I sanded through all the sand, I wiped the wood with a damp cloth to lift the grain.
I waited 24 hours after the second pour, used 24 oz of epoxy and mixed in 2 oz of glitter powder.
Cherry Or Walnut Wood River Table
The stuff is pretty thick after that, so I decided to use a heat gun to move the epoxy.
I removed the debris in the previous step to make it safe to use the heat gun. 😉
I decided to test the glow powder with a black light while the epoxy cured it on the river table.

To do this, I shine a UV black light directly on the glitter powder for about 10 seconds.
In the end, I wanted a softer glow, so I didn’t use the 4:1 ratio as suggested by Art n Glow.
I decided to buy a UV black light to manually charge the glitter powder during the day.
First Epoxy River Table Make From Cedar And Finished With Polyurethane.
Since the table was indoors and part of the house with little sunlight, I knew the glitter powder wouldn’t lift enough.
I used fireproof glass on this table because it will be in the same room as the previous LED epoxy river table I made a few months ago.
The fire glass is quite dusty from the bag, so I cleaned the glass with a bucket of water.

I then poured the last 24 oz all at once, making sure the level of epoxy was level with the top of each piece of wood.
Later, I turned off the light and marveled at how brightly the river table glowed in the dark.
This not only wasted the epoxy, but also made it difficult to remove the melamine.

Long story short, I sealed this epoxy riverboard as best I could and it was worth it.
I used my ex to remove the excess silicone and hot glue from the underside of the epoxy river board.
However, I need the face light on (against the table) to charge the glitter powder for the epoxy river table.
How To Make A Diy Epoxy Resin Table
I then turned off the lights in my workshop to show the look of the epoxy riverboard with the UV blacklight on.
I then turned off the UV Black Lights and the glitter powder shone through the fire glass perfectly.
I also used the hairpins I made on my previous table to match the legs.
How To Make A River Table From A Slab Of Wood And Some Glass
I then attached them to the bottom of the live end riverboard, marking the pilot holes, drilling the pilot holes and adding the screws.
Also in the photo below you can see the glow in the dark epoxy board by blocking out the UV light.
The glow of the dark table also fades over time, depending on the amount of charge and the light source.

It looks very similar to my other cypress sink table, but it glows in the dark and stands out in a unique way.
The amount of resin required for a river bed can be determined using the following formula: Quartz Required = Volume (cubic inches)*0.017316.
The best epoxy for a river table is a deep pour epoxy. Deep pour epoxy can be poured up to 4 inches thick, reducing the number of epoxy pours required to create a river table.
