There are no additional holes. No messy patching and repainting. The procedure we present here allowed us to center our TV against a wall in a family room that did not have an outlet. Since there was already an outlet on the other side of that wall (facing the adjoining bedroom), we simply added a new outlet in the family room that draws power from the outlet in the bedroom.

I am in the process of replacing all the electrical outlets in our kitchen to match the color of the new backsplash. Three of them were direct. However, the fourth and fifth were connected differently. Everything I’ve read says two wires plus a ground for each. Electrical outlet. I’m not sure what wire combinations the included twist connectors are rated for, so I assume they’re only rated for 2 #14 wires (check the documentation). So before you get started, you’ll want to pick up a pair of ideal yellow twist connectors.
The old outlet doesn’t look like a GFCI, but it can be connected to an outlet upstream (toward the breaker box) for protection. In this case, connecting the wire black to black and white to white should not affect the outlets (it basically removes the specific outlet from the GFCI circuit). However, it may affect the upstream GFCI if there is one (since there will be power on the black and white wires going back to the breaker box). If you’re having trouble with the suggestion below, or maybe including a GFCI for your kitchen (recommended), keep this in mind if an error ever occurs.
In your picture, the pin on the hot side (black wire) of the connector is not broken (ie the two hot wires are always connected). I think you will find the same thing on the neutral side (white wire). This will be a socket that serves another socket or switch further down the line. You can connect the black wires together with the black wires from your new outlet. Do the same with the white threads. In your picture there is only one ground wire, I would ask that the two ground connections be connected together in the box and the third (the one in the picture) go to ground in the old socket. Connect this ground to your green wire in the new socket.

While I was connecting the sockets, I thought I would take some pictures for guidance. The images are for an industrial environment, but the same techniques apply to home use as well. You can never have enough sockets, can you! Sometimes you need to add it here and there to your house/garage.
To plug in a 110v/120v outlet you need 3 wires, the green or bare copper is the ground, the white is the neutral and usually the black or red is the hot (current issue) wire (in this case mine is a hot purple fuse). At home you will usually use Romex thread which you can get in the store. Usually you will get 14/2 which means hot/neutral wire gauge is 14 awg and includes the bare ground. This type of thread is strong. The wire I used on the farm is 14 awg stranded, which means the wires are in a bundle of small wires. More convenient to use in an industrial environment such as a farm.
Be sure to turn off the power at the circuit breaker in the area where you are working. The suffocation of surprises is never fun 🙂
