How To Install Outdoor Electrical Outlet – Our backyard had one gang that wasn’t in a good place and had seen the effects of time. The grip on the plugs was excellent and having a single output band made it a problem if multiple instruments were needed at the same time.

I took this opportunity to finally try the “fluid lock” variable. I looked very easy to work with, but I wasn’t. I spent a lot of time researching how to attach the tube to some kind of box in front of the original outlet before I realized that a “lamp cover” would work perfectly.

My first step is what I do for all electrical projects after trying it many times. I pull out my trusty multimeter and check that the voltage is 120v. Doing this further tells me that my multimeter has charged the batteries and is working fine. Then I went to the circuit panel and installed the breaker. Then, I go back to the outlet and repeat the test with my multimeter to make sure the voltage is now zero.
I do it that way because I’ve had cases in the past where my multimeter had dead batteries and the voltage indicator lights didn’t light up. In that case, I thought that the power was dead and the multimeter seemed to confirm… but when I actually started working, the jolts that were caused told me that the power is still alive!

So now, with live power preview, I can trust my multimeter when there is no power!
I removed the original waterproof cover from the same box. It was still very wet – a little foam broke. You can see in the picture that it is starting to crack in places.
The picture does not show how damaged the cracks are. Not a good way out by any stretch of the imagination.
Then the old outlet is taken out of the box, which should be small. No. It probably took five minutes and a lot of strength to pull it off. The problem is that the screws holding it on are “stuck” in an odd way. Both rotate freely, but neither move forward (as if there are no threads) nor slide (as if something is holding). I decided to almost tear them apart.
Wiring A Duplex Receptacle
After the outlet came out, I saw how the old cover was loosened. It was so full of dust and wires inside that I couldn’t tell which wire was white and which was black.
I found out that the original wiring was 12 gauge, which surprised me because all the old wiring I’ve found in our house so far has always been 14 gauge (although most replacements are 20 amps). interest
I chose a lamp cover with three holes because the holes were already turned roughly in the direction of my exit. That saved buying another 90 degree liquid tight connector. The cover came with plugs for two unused holes, which was handy.
Scratching on the new cover is much less of a pain, because the guard is not clear where the bottom screw should go. The sticker was irrelevant as long as the correct starting point was found.
Dual Purpose Outlets
I had never worked with fluid tension flexible tubing before and was excited to try this project. It exceeded my expectations for ease of use!
The pipe can be easily cut with a utility knife (no special ones like PVC or EMT). The connectors fit all EMT pressure fittings in the same way, so no special tools or glues are needed there.
Basically, you start by cutting the tube to size with a utility knife. Then unscrew the connector cap and slide it over the conductor. This leaves a “channel” in the other half of the connector where you can easily press the driver. The cap then snaps back onto the joint and in doing so forms a watertight seal. Sundara! In fact, the only downside to rigid fluid pipe is that it is more expensive than PVC or EMT. At my local stores, 1/2″ PVC runs about 15 cents a foot, compared to 23 cents a foot for EMT and 40 cents a foot for Liquid Tight!
After attaching the first connector, it’s a no-brainer to plug the wires into the tube and screw everything into the lamp holder.

Well, after doing this I regret getting the “bronze” cover – the gray cover would have been a much better match!
I have a waterproof metal outlet to hold the new parts as they are made to accept waterproof gasket covers. Unfortunately, they are designed to screw into the wall behind them and I have to screw them to the sides of my thin wall. Holes had to be opened in the side of the box.
I used galvanized construction screws to make the adhesive, since laminated wood is stressed. These screws are specifically sized for use in PT wood.
The box came with three holes – one on top of the other; behind; and below I installed the top and bottom and only used the back. You can see in the photo above that I added a ground screw to connect all the parts and the metal together.

I put the duct in a new box with a 90 degree connector. It is similar to other conjunctions. Although… I did briefly forget to slip the connector cap on the tube. Alas! That required pulling the wire out of the box and disconnecting the connector before doing everything. It’s not that big of a deal.
I had a little problem with the height of the carrier. For some reason, I measured it to be two inches long. On the other hand, it cuts very easily with a utility knife. On the other hand, the tube already has a wire and I don’t want to disconnect the tube from the wire. Another option is to cancel the entire manager section; Cut it to size; And redo everything… But I didn’t want to put a lot of effort. So I cut the pipe to size and the wire
Be very careful where I cut in relation to the wires. I’m happy to report that I didn’t cut any wires!
After connecting the carrier and fishing with the wires, I was able to screw the new box into place. We can finally see hints of what it will look like in the end.

I often work the pigtails into the new boxes by connecting them to the lines. This provides more flexibility and positioning and allows stores to operate independently even if one of the adjacent boxes fails. Boxes wired in series will also fail in series. In this case, however, I didn’t do it without some reason. I had a room; wire nuts; And a lot of wire… but it felt like doing it that way this time.
In this case, I cut and removed the power and neutral wires to size and tied the ground around the ground screw. Then the ground was two pairs of pigs because there were no simple “jumpers” between the grounding points as there were other wires.
Stores were matched black to black and white to white. I always remember what happened with colors. Brass starts with “b” like “black” so I remember one and I think silver is white… but actually, I only remember “brass is black” and the other should be white. The quality is always low.
