How To Make A 60 Inch Round Table Top – We made a modern 48″ round table for our playroom out of 2x4x8s and wanted to share how it was done here! for now, but we love how it turned out!
The basic idea of how to create this table is very simple, but I can honestly say that we had a lot of problems to make it, even though we had some knowledge to do everything at that time. If you’ve never built furniture before, I wouldn’t recommend this as a starting point. I consider it medium difficulty. It’s not too easy and it’s not too hard, but my guide assumes you’re familiar with crafting and using the tools listed when building this board.

For our table design, we looked at different styles, which are shown in the same pictures in the design of my concept. For the stand, we originally planned to create a one-legged variation of our X-based farmhouse dining table design, but instead we went back to a simpler, smaller space than we chose and decided to do a more modern design. * Lumber buying tip: Choose your lumber carefully. Be sure to check each one, and if you are using wood in different colors, make sure the wood you choose is the color you want for your table.
Once your countertop is fully assembled and the glue is dry, it’s time to cut out the circle. In the end, we found that the best way to do this was to draw a perfect circle with a home compass and cut it loosely with a chainsaw. I thought a router would be a better tool for cutting circles, but we didn’t have one and renting one seemed too much of a burden and we had a chainsaw so we used it.
First, we tried building a circular saw jig, and it worked well in theory. It holds the saw in place and moves in a perfect circle. Unfortunately it didn’t work for us as I think the wood we were using was too thick for the saw blade as the saw blade bent and gave an angled cut instead of a straight cut. So in the end we just removed the trim by hand and it worked great! We were worried we wouldn’t be able to do it everywhere but we did and it’s honestly not too hard as long as you go slow and steady and don’t try to rush it. I will show you the jack we built below in the following pictures because the idea works well on soft wood or plywood/mdf or anything smaller than 1 1/2″ solid wood boards. This feature would be a great solution for circular cutting.

Storage instructions. Machine wash in cold water or room temperature on a gentle cycle. Use regular detergent. Bleach is not recommended. Do not wash with other things. Wash together as a color. Things I’ve Learned: It’s worth more time to go to a lumber yard and have them use your wood in a joinery, and it’s even more impressive when you choose a hardwood like maple, oak, walnut or alder. I cannot stress this enough. The first time I didn’t do this, instead I bought some 2×6 lumber from Home Depot and cut the round edges of the wood and I can tell it made a huge difference in the overall finish.

Here is a list of things I picked up at the lumber yard. Yours may vary if you want to use thinner or wider boards.
The base follows Jen Woodhouse’s 60″ guidelines exactly, except the dimensions have been altered to be larger and fit a 70″ table top.

2: Find the center of your middle plank and insert a piece of wood (about 4 inches wide) into that center point with a wood screw. This will be your plan.
3: Move the mold in a circle making sure you always have a 3-4 inch overhang.
4: Using a circular or angle saw, cut the boards down to 8 inches and save the scraps for later use. (Save as much waste as possible, it will be useful when making octagons).
How Do I Determine The Proper Dining Table Size For A Room?
5: Make dashes every 8 to 12 centimeters where you will make the holes for your pockets and attach the boards with screws. I alternate these pocket holes to distribute the tension on each board.
6: Bag hole. If you are using 0.75″ thick wood like I am, you will need to set your Kreg drill guides to 3/4″ and use a 1 1/4″ pocket screw.
7: Glue all the combination of the two boards, spread the wood with a brush, roller or finger so that the glue evenly covers the whole assembly. Arrange the two planks and fasten them so that they are tight and touching, and the two planks are flat against each other. While it’s tightened, insert your 1 1/4″ pocket screw.

8: Paste in section. I clamp about 4 boards at a time and let those sit in place with the clamp for 24 hours before moving on to the next set of 4 boards. Pressing in all directions The final goal is that we want the joints to meet together so that there are no gaps between the boards, but most importantly we want the top of the table to be flat. So if you just use the pliers to hold the boards together and don’t allow the downward pressure to flatten the table… it will start to rot like a taco. And no one wants a taco table
9: This is an optional step, but if you want a table with thick edges without being too heavy.
