If you have a small kitchen (like me) this is a great macrame project and would look great with your macrame plant hangers or macrame table runners!
You can use this idea to make a simple lacy toy hammock for your nursery. My kids are using the hammock in our kitchen as a hammock for their stuffed animals, so this easy project will be a lot of fun!
Things To Consider Before Buying A Macrame Hammock Swing Chair
All you need for this DIY is some macrame cord, a dowel or two, and some simple knots. Don’t worry, I’ll walk you through the process step by step!
You also need a way to hang the hammock. There is also a permanent way and a temporary way with screw hooks, which is a great idea for small apartments, or if you think you might want to move the hammock later.
I decided to use Command Hook because we plan to eventually sell our house and I don’t want to deal with bugs later. So far they are doing really well with no signs of decline, so that’s a win!

Comment. It’s a really good idea to measure how deep your cabinets are now and cut the dowels to the correct length before you start.
Instead, I made a hammock and had to cut about an inch off when I went to install it. It still works great, but it’s a bit easier if you cut the dowel first rather than later.
Then tie an extra hook knot to the left and right to create the lark’s head note.

Tie the first square knot from the left to the end and continue until there are 6 square knots in the first row.
Go down about an inch, skip the first and second strings, and tie a row of 5 square knots. They are in each square knot from the previous row.
Repeat the first and second rows until there are 15 rows in total. It forms the main part of the hammock.

Take another dowel and place it under the row of all the square knots on the straightened end of the rope.
Connect each wire to the other dowel using a double half knot going from left to right. Leave a finger-width space between the last row of square knots and the dowel.
Turn the lace hammock over and tighten the double hook halves again to make sure they are really secure.

Spray a line of glue on the back of the hook half assembly on both sides. Then apply the glue with your fingers or a brush so that it covers the back of the knot. to dry.
When the glue is completely dry, take a pair of scissors and cut the long end of the string near the knot. I left about an inch and a half of wire sticking out. The glue should be nice and secure.
Hold the two pins together, making sure the distance between the strings is enough to cover the same number of pins. If it is not even, spread the knot slightly on one side of the double half hook.

Now you need to decide whether you want to use the screw hook or the command bar hook. It really depends on how durable you want your macrame fruit basket to be. We planned to move eventually, so I chose Command Hook.
Also, if you’re like me and build a hammock and decide to see if it fits (oops!), now you need to try the fit and see if you need to cut the dowels.
I cut about an inch off my dowel so it would fit perfectly under the cabinet. If you are doing the same, you will want to sand the edges to get everything nice and smooth.

OK, now decide on the position on the left side of the hammock. Either screw on that side hook, or attach the command hook. Repeat for the right side.
