A professional air hockey setup is often found in rinks due to the sophisticated systems required to operate it. Our goal is to create a DIY air hockey table, to bring the experience of this game at home.
Using common materials we managed to create a cost effective and simple air hockey table. Our project has the power of modern technologies such as laser cutting and 3d printing to create a customized and easy scale system that can create a game that fits their preferences.

To see the air hockey table, we first designed it on Fusion 360. We scaled our playground to the right size, making it easy to set up, but keeping the fun aspect of the game. Here are some features of our DIY program:

Ideas How To Clean An Air Hockey Table?
We use a 3d printer to make many custom parts. Since most of the parts do not require much energy, we print them in PLA which is recommended as it is also easy to print. The following list contains the total number of units and their published specifications. All STL files are provided in the following folder, which allows one to change them to their needs if necessary.
The parts took a total of 48 hours to print and were done on our Ender 3 printer.
The playing space requires a grid of 1mm holes. It would be a difficult job if done by hand so we decided to use the power of laser cutting. Listed below are several laser cut parts for the air hockey game. The file below contains 2d drawings of all parts for laser cutting.

3d printed parts have fewer supports and therefore require less post-processing. Use the pliers to gently remove the backing material and remove any remaining plastic wrap. After laser cutting the gym area we noticed that some of the air vents were also blocked. If anyone has similar problems you can easily use a sharp point like a compass point to remove the shell hole. Hold the sheet up to the light source and determine which holes are blocked.
The frame of the air hockey table is made of 1″ 4″ pine wood. The inside size of the frame or the size of the playing field is 80cm by 50cm. Using the circular measure and the guide, we cut four pieces of wood, one 80 cm long and two 54 cm long (as if the horizontal line is placed on the long strip). Once finished, the edges must be sanded so that the surface is smooth and uniform.
To connect the acrylic yard to the wooden frame spacers to support from below. Cut 12 strips 1.5 cm wide from the remaining pine wood. Then cut them in half using a hacksaw to end up with 24 spaces. Not only do these blocks support the yard but they provide the correct space for connecting the plywood bottom panels.

The top surface of the acrylic yard is exactly 2 cm below the top of the frames. Since the spacers need to support the acrylic from below, draw a line 2.2cm from the top to account for the 2.2cm thickness of the acrylic. Glue the spacers at an equal distance from each other, leaving 5 cm on both sides. Glue 5 spacers on the long lines and glue 4 on the wide lines.
We use three wood screws for the joint to hold the frame together. Mark a wide line of wood on both sides and three identical holes in the middle. We used a 5mm bit to make a pilot hole on both pieces of wood and drilled the hole to allow the screw head to run loose. Using a square, make sure the pieces are square and fix any imperfections. It is important that the playing field needs to fit easily into the frame, because the field will create air lines.
The size of the ball on the table is officially 3 times the diameter of the puck. Now on the top two pieces mark a square measuring 15cm x 1cm a centimeter below the top to make sure the target is centered. Then two holes are drilled to fit into the puzzle and cut in diameter. A cutter that oscillates like a wind can also be used to produce a very clean cut. File the edges to remove any remaining material.
How Much Does A Good Air Hockey Table Cost?
Simply apply a generous amount of glue to the wooden blocks and place the acrylic sheet in place. Once you have made a rest on the edge, like a stick wrapped around, until the glue sets. Then check with the spirit level the entire surface of the table if it is flat and level.
Note: It is important that the playing field is completely level because minute disappointments can occur.
To ensure that all the air comes out only through the holes in the yard, one needs to limit any gaps. Use a hot glue gun or silicone gel (used to seal aquarium boxes) to seal any leaks along the acrylic panel.

The bottom panel has the same dimensions as the playing field. We chose a scrap piece of 5mm plywood from a previous project for the bottom, although one could choose any wood that provides some strength. To allow air to circulate in the game area, we cut a hole the size of the adapter in the center of the base. In our case it is 5 cm in diameter but it depends on the personal blower used. We use it to cut the hole and clean the surface with a dremel
Now that the bottom panel is finished the air hockey can be changed to the frame. Apply glue to all the wooden blocks and place the bottom panel. As a precaution we decided to drive in some trails to increase the joint more. Then seal any gaps between the panel and the frame using a glue gun.
Run the LED strip along the length of the playing field and cut the nearest “cut mark” on the strip. And evenly space five 3d printed spacers with the holes facing up and glue them in place. Secure the prints with night clamps and then slide the LED prints into their sockets.
