New Parsons Chairs For The Dining Room {getting The Vibe}
A local blogger friend, Julie Bilner, asked me if I could make an IKEA HENRIKSDAL countertop. You bought three for a new kitchen renovation and you want matching fabrics. Not all slippers on the market have the charm and comfortable feel that you expect.
I had never sewn a parson’s chair cover before, but I knew I was up to the challenge. After all, it doesn’t get much tougher than a wingback chair cover!
She chose this soft blue ticking tape from Magnolia Home Design. Amazon has a very similar fabric selection. You can find it here.
The Best Dining Chairs For Your Style And Budget
I loved the dress as soon as I saw it. I know it will make a wonderful cover for the IKEA HENRIKSDAL counter. A tiki rug transforms a basic wooden chair into a beautiful farmhouse-style chair.
The video tutorial above includes all the instructions you need to make your own chair cover. I will also do a short review here in the blog post.
You can use these patterns to cover any size chair. The measurements listed above are specific to the IKEA HENRIKSDAL bar stool, but the same guidelines can be applied to any Parsons stool, dining chair, or stool. Just adjust the size to your specific item.

I started sitting on the top of the chair, right side down. I checked to make sure it was evenly spread around and the lines were straight.
After sewing the side pieces, I attached the seat piece, making sure to hide all the lines.
I hope you found this tutorial on how to sew a parson’s chair cover helpful. I enjoyed the process and liked the way it worked.

The chairs at the end of our kitchen table are everyone’s “favorite chairs”. They are good and therefore always busy. Instead of sitting on a rock in the basement or on the couch, I’ll find my boys sitting at the end of the table, watching a movie or playing a game. This is where they sit these days for schoolwork and of course breakfast, lunch and games. These are iron seats!
Seats are a complete disaster. Most of the mess is due to glue from my son’s T1D pod changes. An adhesive remover is used to remove one pod before installing another and leaves an adhesive residue on the seats. And left sticky then it attracts any dirt or grime it comes in contact with. Plus…boys aren’t worried about standing up. Now we have discussed that they are old enough to take proper care of these seats.
The Benchmade Collection
Anyway, the painting is done and it’s time to make a mask for the seats so that they can be washed when they fall and cover the stains on the existing furniture.
One of my readers sent me a photo of a cheap quilt she thought would be used as a bed, and she was right! I have already ordered from the same fabric store (for a shade of linen in my studio), but not this specific linen. It’s called 4c22 Natural from fabric-store.com and it’s a really economical fabric with a vintage feel that’s perfect for bedspreads. I was even able to get it on sale for $6.80/yard!
I had already washed the bed and then worked on the bed sheets for a few days. Of course I train for those who have seats they want to cover. This is a little different from my sectional chair cover series, although my method and advice will be familiar. This tutorial will work for any chair with this general design, but it doesn’t have to be exactly like mine. Once you understand the method, it is very easy to adjust.

For the two chairs (with traditional piping, ties and skirts), I used five yards of fabric, with a few scraps!
On the other hand I will show how to knit, sew and make a skirt…

(And unlike the 90s version, the legs are no longer paddles, lol!) If you have a little jewelry experience under your belt and some basic hardware tools, there’s no reason to worry. Here’s how to restore Parsons dining room chairs if you want to say it with pride

The first order of business, obviously, is to get rid of old clothes. This task is greatly reduced with the right tools. Work gloves are helpful if you haven’t yet acquired a gloved hand.
. The best dining chair should have a nice, rounded seat, called a “crown”. A flat chair will look cheap, so if you’re looking for a stylish, classy look, this one
The crown is made of cotton in the center of the chair and then a whole layer of polyester that is pulled and attached to the bottom edge of the chair, as you make the fabric.

The front seat is cloth. Make sure you cut a piece big enough to completely wrap around the edges, including the back. Place the fabric on the seat, in the middle of it. Join groups at first. You should pull the pretty one from the middle and place a clip on the bottom edge in the middle of the chair rail.
Do it on both sides. Next, do the same on the front side. For the back, you will need to make some cuts. Turn the fabric back and make a “v-cut”, right up to where the leg column is. In particular, the V cut allows the fabric to fit easily on both sides of the leg column, without too much fabric. If you feel it with your fingers, you will know what I am talking about. Cut the center line of the post, and make each side of the post, as close as you can get.
I like to start from the back when I undress. Pull tight, but not tight enough to create tension in the front of the chair. Then, remove one side panel and drape the fabric over the back of the chair.

. Lift the back leg and work your way to the front leg, pulling the fabric forward as you go.
You want something nice, thin and no bumps. Make the other side. To complete the legs, cutting
The front corners must be straight. You will have longer results and they will be more consistent. First fold the folded fabric to the side, including the front edge of the face.

Fold the cloth well and divide it in front. (The step will be visible, but hidden by the studs, later.)
Pull the fabric out and secure it in place with staples. Find the leg support rail and make a “V-cut”. The v-cut also removes any tension from the fabric, which can cause rips and other unwanted bumps. Pull the fabric through the back.
Trim off excess fabric before gluing in place. Do it on both sides. Next, pull the fabric tightly, and pinch the top to keep it in place.

Once both sides are glued in place, you can go back and place all your stitches. You want a stiff fabric, no fluff.
You will tape it with some cardboard tape. This will give a straight, sharp edge.
Line the back with some foam or more closed poly. Fold the fabric down and secure the bottom part with a staple.
