Belka picnic tables are very easy to make. You don’t need many materials or tools to build it!
We used 1×3 wood trim because we had a very large pile from taking down our old dining table while we built the new table.
The only thing to keep in mind is that your wood must be protected from the outside if you plan to store it outside – which you need to do if you want it to be squirrel free.
Measurements For The Squirrel Picnic Table
Of course you can use any type of wood and not worry about external protection. Remember that wood will warp, rot, and rot when exposed.
It’s actually a fun project that shouldn’t take forever, so it might not bother you, but I wanted to reveal it!

Hi Morgan and Sean. My wife and I live in Sumter and, like Charleston, we have many squirrels in the trees around our house. During the 2015 flood, some of these squirrels came to us even though we were tearing down our house. I took them back to the trees and the bag of peanuts. This picnic table makes a great addition to our fences that the squirrels use as driveways (literally). My wife saw your FB page and it got me thinking. I’ve been busy making lots of things with wooden pallets lately. It was a form of therapy for me. I will be retiring from the National Guard in about a year and these projects seem to fill some holes. I hope to build this squirrel picnic table and give my neighbors and squirrels a reason to smile. My little Westie/Jack Russell friend likes to chase squirrels. They need a place to rest. But with the lockdown, people around the world have more time than ever, and Rick Kalinowski’s cool DIY project seems to be inspiring movers around the world.
Rick, a plumber from Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, built a table to watch the resident squirrels eat every day, which brought him joy in these dark times.
The 43-year-old said: “I built a picnic bench and put it on the fence outside the living room window so I could watch the squirrels eat while I drank my coffee every morning.

“Four to six squirrels visit me regularly and I always photograph them.”

So instead of preventing them from excelling, we decided to give the squirrels the attention they crave and give them their own squirrel feed. The best part? It looks like they are sitting on a small picnic table while eating!
