How To Wire A 200 Amp Meter Socket
I replaced the meter socket that worked on the NEC2017 (up to 200A) and found something I couldn’t see on the old socket.

Current installation – the main panel is rated 200A, comes with 4ga wire from the panel, 8ft of 4ga solid copper wire and 8ft of wire connected to the 4ga wire (green). from the panel to the water pipe.
Pictured below is a new meter socket (Milbank U4801-Xl-5T9). I don’t know how to explain the red label that says “If service is not root, remove tie and reinstall screw”.
I’m not sure if this is talking about the pole service or the service panel. I’ve seen people throw a ground wire directly into the meter socket (picture below is from this Old Home video on upgrading 200A service), but my main panel. My goal now is to leave the harness in place (but remove the tag that seems to partially block the bolt on the harness) since the service panel is attached. Is this the right way?
The meter socket is above the service disconnect, so it must be connected to it as it is a neutral earthing system.

My current preference is to leave the belt in place (but remove the markings such as removing the bolt from the belt).
Don’t do it. The bolt applies pressure to the steel link to hold the large surface of the box, plus the shank of the bolt connecting the two sides. It doesn’t matter if the washer is actually connected with a tie.
But it’s not a good idea to remove important notes – plane crashes and other major incidents have happened because notes were removed.

It looks like 6 wires in parallel from the device, 2 for each conductor and 2 for neutral, to boost power. It has the wrong size socket to secure the panel. There are two joints on the output side.
Now that this new meter pot is available from Eaton, I will talk to the dealer about getting the correct meter pot or bag for that pot.
The 2020 NEC also requires external sets to be cut. If your state has implemented NEC 2020, the easiest way is large meters.
