Once all the corners were done, I used the simple rule again to line up the first scallops along the edges of the table.

Setting a table is a challenge for me, so I thought about how I could do it with this table. I traced the bottom of the oval bowl to the wrong side of the table cloth. I found a light brush to use for covering and trimming as well. I sewed them right sides together, leaving about 3 inches open on the long side for turning later. I trimmed the seams to 1/4 inch, trimmed the tapered ends, and cut notches in the buttons so they lay nicely when turned and pressed, which I did. Then I folded the table again and the black pen I drew in the center of the table, this time on the right side because that’s what I wanted and it would be covered by that center piece.

This would have been a good time to remove the red paint, but I did it while doing some molding around the outside of the table. At first I thought it would be helpful to use bias tape for the hems, but I didn’t have any and wanted to do it the same day. I can go back and cover the edge with masking tape. I also plan to make a crochet fillet border to sew along the edge. Add a touch of color and photography to the basic desk with simple sewing supplies and basic DIY skills.
