How To Make A Table Out Of Fresh Cut Wood – I'm not cooking Christmas dinner this year, so instead of setting the holiday table in our dining room, I decided to decorate our kitchen table where we eat every day. Now I wonder why I never did this before because I'm so happy I can enjoy it for weeks instead of one night! I wanted to try to make a greenway for the first time and in typical Chris fashion I went at it without much of a plan or idea of how it would turn out. Luckily, when you put together a bunch of greenery, it's hard not to end up with something pretty! I'm very happy with how it turned out:
It took a bit of trial and error, but once I got the look I wanted, I copied it to the other side of the table and took step by step photos to share with you! The best part is that I stocked everything I used in our store except for the few things I had so I wasn't running around looking for what I needed this holiday season. How To Make A Table Out Of Fresh Cut Wood
To make the runner table I used four pomegranates, six pears, one bunch of eucalyptus seeds, two small bunches of magnolia branches and one bunch of blackberry branches. I also cut some green leaves from a tree in our yard to add to the mix and used pillar candles and pine cones I already had:

You can make your own green table runner, but I want to add contrast by first putting a tablecloth under the table – I used one that's on sale right now (sale plus 40% off until the end of today):
I started with the magnolia branches, cutting each branch closer to the stem of the last leaf and placing them one by one the length of the table. I used four small branches on each side and kept the two remaining branches to use as padding in my final step:
I then placed two pillar candles on each side of the table where the two ends of the magnolia branches meet. Since the candles were placed on a green field, I chose 3″ x 4″ flameless candles (I don't have mine anymore, but they look similar and come with a remote!). The beauty of these flameless candles is that you don't just have to worry about leaving the runner lit, they have a built in timer so they will go out a certain number of hours after you light them and then disappear. turn on and off at the same time every day.

Next, I cut out small eucalyptus trees and placed them so that most of the leaves lay on top of the magnolia branches, while others filled the space between the branches. My grocery store didn't have the regular type of round leaf eucalyptus I planned to use, but this transplanted eucalyptus turned out great – any kind will do! Then I did the same with the other small pieces – any green ones will do. If you go out with a pair of shears, chances are you have a tree or bush in your yard that you can cut down:
Now it's time to add some color! Cut small fruit leaves from large branches and spread them into the green dough. Then add colorful fruit – I used pomegranates and mini pears, but you could also use cranberries, clementines or apples! I sprinkled it with some donuts:
You can also cut small pieces from an artificial berry branch and reuse them year after year.

Finally, use the remaining green to fill in any empty spaces in the runner (especially the ends) until it looks full and even. I mainly used magnolia leaves for this:
It took me about 45 minutes from start to finish to harvest all the foliage (most of that time was cutting the branches to size). I love the life it has added to our kitchen table!
I wanted to add a vase of flowers to the center of the dough, but when I finished folding the green dough, there were only a few flowers. I used one of the (smaller) ones instead and it's the easiest to work with:

The green leaves, eucalyptus leaves, and magnolias I used in the runner will dry out in a few days, but they won't actually wilt – they'll just turn a little green, so I'm hoping to keep mine. runner and will go from now until Christmas.
