The whole idea for this project started after my husband brought in a patio table he found at the end of someone’s driveway (when people put whatever they want in another way, free for delivery).
Since I knew I wanted a tile floor, I gathered the materials and began measuring and cutting the cement board. (Remember: When you use a utility knife to cut cement board, you’ll be going through a lot of blades).
The cement boards were only 3’x5′ so I had to choose several pieces to make a larger space. I laid them lengthwise on a 4’x8′ sheet of aspenite and cut an extra foot from each cement board to fill in the middle. So, I need to cut one leg of fuel and be able to increase all my parts.

After I installed the cement board pieces, I sanded them down with a wooden plane. The hard parts are coming! You need to flip your board over and mark where all the pieces of wood will go, then put it back and screw it from the top down (so everything sticks to the top of the cement board).
Basically, I made a 2×4 frame around the table area, then used smaller pieces of wood to fit the size of the table.
After the first pieces were in place, I added some pieces of wood to hold the table in place (put more pieces of wood and screws underneath as you eat). Think of it like building blocks, I like the 2×4 pieces to pop out and fit the edge of the table like a puzzle.

After I built my base, I added some 2x4s to the sides (pre-painted to match my board) to make a border. I used the tiles as a guide and placed them at a height relative to the 2×4 tiles. I cut the ends of my boards straight, so if you want a rounded edge – you’ll need to cut your table a little shorter than 4′ (or use thicker woodworking tools).
I knew I had a tile table, so I laid out my tiles and moved them around. Note: You don’t want your tiles to sit on the cut lines/edges of the cement board as they will be easier.
My desk had a few large blanks to fill, but I also had a lot of broken boards left over from various renovation projects. I cut the tiles into smaller sizes, then divided each size into groups. Be careful when breaking tiles, shards of glass fly and can cut the exposed surface.

I started putting in the big pieces first, then filled in the middle and smaller pieces. If you are planning to make a table, keep in mind that the mosaic tile style will take the most time for your project (at least 75% of my time was spent on these parts).
Then I stick each tile with a remover (make sure it can be used outdoors) and wait for everything to dry. However, this project takes a lot of time to make – I spread it out over several days.
Since I was working outdoors, I had to cover the table so the rain wouldn’t spoil the curing process. When everything is done, you can open your table and it will work.
