The overall dimensions of the rocking chair are 26″ x 40″ x 42″ (width, depth, height). The seat is 15″ from the floor, 21″ wide, 28″ high, 16″ deep.

The drawing is in inches, but if you need metric dimensions, you can multiply each dimension by 25.4 and you get millimeters.
The lumber dimensions selected for this project were from American retail stores (The Home Depot and Menards). This means that if you live outside the US, you may need additional woodworking equipment such as a miter saw and a table saw, as lumber dimensions in Europe are very different from the US.

The rocking chair is the most difficult and time-consuming piece of furniture I make, so I built it to last for generations (I don't like wasting time and effort on something that won't last!). The first step is usually laminated rockers. It needs to be very strong to handle swinging so I laminated some pieces of wood to this press and let the glue dry overnight. It forms a shape and lamination provides exceptional strength while allowing for a thinner profile. I could use solid wood, but to get the same strength they would have to be very large, which would take away from the look of the rocking chair. Correct curvature of the shape is important for a comfortable swinging movement. This is where my strong math background comes in handy!

This is planed to the correct thickness, small pieces are laminated onto this profile to form the joints over the legs, then everything is rounded to make the final profile.
Like the dining room chair, the backrest snaps into the seat and headrest. A tight fit is very important here. These sheets are laminated, similar to rockers, but I usually cut them from solid wood boards to change the thickness of the grooves to make them look better.
The headrest and armrests are the hardest parts to work on, and they have to be perfect, as they are the first places the hands reach! The grains flow in the same direction in the legs and headboard, which results in a very robust construction. glue joints But for added strength, #14 steel screws were used for fixing (hidden under the wooden dowels that are barely visible on the finished rocking chair).
