The best way to cut the parts for this chair is with a miter saw. You can also use a circular saw.

Cut the legs with a taper if desired, starting the taper 14″ from the bottom of the leg.

Use glue and screws in one corner on the inside of the frame to the back of the legs. The screws in the corner will be tight and since your screws are 1-1/2″ long there is a risk of the screw coming off center.  The corner will help with this.

To finish, sand with 120-grit sandpaper. Remove the sand pad. Apply dirt with a foam brush (disposable) or a paper towel or disposable towel (or old socks work too). The screw holes can be filled later with matching wood fillers if needed. A clear coat can be added to protect the wood stain.

To complete the picture, use wood filler in all the holes, filling the holes. Allow the wood to dry completely. Sand with 120 grit sandpaper. Remove any remaining sand. Apply primer and paint (or paint and primer in one). Apply as much as needed to get even coverage. We recommend a semi-gloss for this project This step-by-step woodworking project is about children's chair plans. If you want to make a small chair for your children, you should follow the instructions shown in this article. If you want to build something nice together with your children or your children, we recommend that you take a closer look at other related projects, such as a small table or a nice playroom.

Given that there are other ways to choose, we strongly recommend that you listen to the composition of the small chairs before starting the actual assembly. As a general rule, you should always adjust the project view before you start building parts so that it fits your needs perfectly. If you will be placing the chairs outside, choose weathered wood. See all my premium plans HERE.

Top tip: If you want to make a nice table and chairs for your little ones, you can follow the instructions shown in this article. However, make sure you plan everything very carefully, right from the start.

How To Build A Childs Chair

The first step of the woodworking project is building the chair frame. As you can see in the picture, we recommend you use 1×3 wood and screws if you want to have a professional job.

After you cut the wood pieces to size, we recommend attaching them with 1 1/4″ screws and waterproof glue. Make sure the corners are straight before inserting the galvanized screws.

Continue with the small woodworking project by attaching the legs to the chair seat. As you can see in the picture, we recommend that you make the back legs a little bigger, as they need to support the backrest.

After making sure the legs are standing and the frame is horizontal, we recommend drilling pilot holes and setting the screws in place. Add waterproof glue to the joints if you want to get a stronger look.

If you want to score points when talking about baby seats, we recommend adding points between the side legs. After adjusting the size of the liners, close the space with glue and finishing nails.

Plans For Child's Chair

The next step of the weekend project is to secure the seat cushions in place. As you can easily see in the photo, we recommend that you adjust the size of the 1×3 battens with a circular saw before securing them in place with 1 1/4″ galvanized screws.

It is also important to place the slats evenly if you want to increase the appearance of a small chair. Reverse the head of the screws and smooth the cut edges for professional results.

One of the last steps of the project is to place the 1×3 battens between the back legs. As you can easily see in the plans, the back support will add value to the project and enhance the look of the chair.

Top tip: If you have special tools and a bit of carpentry knowledge, connecting slats between the legs and creating pocket holes is a good idea. Use the spirit level to get accurate scores and results.

One of the last steps of a woodworking project is to take care of the finish. So fill the pilot holes with wood putty and sand with 120 grit sandpaper.

Sundvik Children's Chair, White

This planter project was about kids chair plans. If you want to see other outdoor projects, we encourage you to check out our other step-by-step projects. Sometimes it surprises me when a project only takes one board. Today I'm doing another board challenge, board size doesn't matter but can only use one. My little girl loves to color and do crafts. I wanted to make him a desk and a chair. I came across this beautiful Dot Dot chair from World of Nod and thought it was perfect. I can't pay full price though because I know he will paint it and it will be disappointing! The great thing is that you can build a high chair with any 1″ x 8″ x 8′ board (about $10). I modified the base a bit to make it easier to build and assemble. The high chair turned out great, now I want to get on that desk!

Download and print Children's Chair Legs Patterns: Children's Round Chair Legs Pattern and Circles: Children's Round Chair Legs Pattern. Make sure your printer settings are 100% and “does not fit on page”. Tape the patterns together, the gray lines help the line, and cut out the patterns.

Cut 4 circles on the board, 2 long legs and 2 short legs. You will also need 2 – 2″ x 8 3/4″ and 2 – 2″ x 8″ pieces of board.

Use a band saw, jigsaw, or circular saw to cut the pieces. I used a band saw, I seem to have better control with a band saw than a jigsaw. Sand all parts carefully.

Punch pocket holes for the 3/4″ material in each end of the 8″ and 8 3/4″ strips. Also cut pocket holes in the 8 3/4 pieces to attach the seat later. (I forgot to do this step the first time, haha!)  Place the pockets in two semi-circles. I made three pocket holes in the seat semi-circle since they won't show. For the back semi-circle, if you carefully place the pocket holes 8 3/4″ apart , they will not be visible after assembly. Use wood glue and 1 1/4″ pocket holes to join the two circles.

For long legs, measure and fit the top 11 1/4″ of the leg. This is important so the chair legs are stable and not rock solid.

Assemble the seat halves making sure all the pocket holes are inside unless you want the holes to show 🙂 Use wood glue and a 1 1/4″ pocket hole screw to attach the 8 3/4″ piece to the long leg, at the 8 3/4″ by 11 1/4″ mark. Attach the other end of the 8 3/4 piece to the short leg, keeping the upper parts of the water. Repeat for the other half of the seat.

Attach the 8-inch pieces between the seat halves with wood glue and 1 1/4-inch pocket-hole screws. I found it easier to flip the seat over and place it on a flat surface to assemble.

Fill any cracks or wounds with wood filler and allow to dry. Sand the seat with smooth circles. I primed the frame of the children's chairs with a paint primer and let it dry. Next, I spray painted the seat of the chair with Rustoleum Gloss Light Turquoise spray paint. The seat and rear wheels were painted gray.
