How To Make Table Mate

How To Make Table Mate – Hello everyone! It’s been a while since I’ve done a sneaky types show and I’m excited. Today I’m showing you how to sew a table mat with a cricut maker. We also talk about how to use bias tape and how to use it to create beautiful, sharp, curved edges.

I don’t have kids, but when my sister asked for these diapers for her nephew, I knew this would be the perfect Cricut project. This is a great “scrap” project and requires a fairly small amount of fabric.

I’ve attached some screenshots below to help you see how I prepared the file for clipping. First I used “Sync Color” to make all shapes the same color.

I then clicked on the eye icon to the right of each piece of silverware to remove the layer with the line separating the top handles of the silverware. If you leave these lines intact, the Cricut will cut two shapes for each piece of silverware. We don’t want that, we just want a solid form.

Finally, rearrange the shapes of the tablecloth to match the fabric scraps used. As you can see, I have already used some of my fabric to cut the silverware. This left some interesting shapes, but I found that carefully arranging the shapes to be cut out was enough to get another insert out.

Below you can determine the shape of the design space to see if you can cut it out of the fabric properly. It is very easy to click, drag and rotate the shape in the design space before cutting the material. This is especially useful if you have odd-shaped scraps, a very small amount of fabric, or if you only want to cut out a specific part of the print from the fabric.

If you’re wondering what the triangles on my rug are for the sticks. My sister (the doll I make rugs for) and her family live in Japan! Feel free to “hide” this triangle if you don’t need it.

* Think about the direction you want to print on the material. For example, I chose the stripes to be horizontal to me. You can lay it diagonally or vertically, depending on how you laid the fabric on the carpet before cutting. Also, if you use print, make sure the blade is pointing to the left!*

Mount the rotary cutter on the Cricut. Place your placeholder die material in the fabric holder and let Cricut do the work! Next, cut out an 11.5 x 17 inch rectangle. One for the top of the mat and one for the back of the mat. This rotary blade went through the heavy canvas I used as well as the soft side. I like.

Place the shape in the upper right corner of the mat. The correct placement is the fork to the left of the plate, the knife immediately to the right of the plate (knife on the plate), the spoon next to it, and the glass above the knife and spoon. I pressed the pieces well so that all edges were smooth, and then glued them to each shape. A sufficient number of pegs will help hold the pieces in place so they don’t move.

I’ve said it before, but just to be clear in case you’re wondering, the triangles on my rug are for sticks. My sister and her family live in Japan! You can skip this section.

The mat should now look like the image below. I had to add a few more pins to this photo.

Starting in the center of one side of the table mat, with the back facing up, place the bias tape directly on the back and front of the table mat, lining up the edges of all three layers. Fold the end of the bias tape in about half an inch. snap it into place.

Measure the width of the bias tape from corner to “groove”. (3/4 inch in my case). See below.

Then mark this distance on the other side of the corner. (3/4 inch in my case)

“Sew in the ditch” from the starting point to the finished mark. Back seam at marking. Remove the table mat from the sewing machine and cut the thread.

Start sewing again from the edge (where the bias tape bends) and continue into the trench as before. Repeat this step for each edge until you reach the starting point. Overlap the bias tape by half an inch over the folded tape you started with, then sew and trim the excess tape.

At the folded edge of the tape, pull the hair through the seam to keep it in place.

At the corner, press one side of the tape under the other to create a sharp “miter corner”. See the three pictures below for the procedure. snap it into place.

On top of the table mat, sew very close to the edge of the monkey around the mat.

Try different widths of bias tape, solid on print, print on solid surface, print on print! I didn’t have it on hand, but I think it would be fantastic to make it out of laminated cotton. They are too easy to delete! If you follow the tutorial and post a photo, tag me in the photo on @Instagram.

I used a DIY stand for this project. My husband made this dress for me. It is square, measuring 12 x 12 inches inside. The frame is made of 3/4 inch thick plywood that is 1 inch wide on all sides. The frame angles are 1/2″ on center.

You will need two colors of acrylic nylon hand knitting yarn to match. I used sea green and bright biscuit colors. The yarn packages are 100 g each. You will need about 25-30g of color for this project.

Continue scrolling in the middle three and the other three rows on the edges of the same color as shown in the diagram. The thread does not have to be cut, but you can stamp it on the outer edge of the nail.
