A multiplication table (sometimes called a multiplication table or multiplication grid) is a very useful mathematical tool.

The great thing about the multiplication table is that you can use it to quickly find the product of two numbers.

Times Table Grid
To find 5 x 4, we need to find the row that shows the 4 times table and the column that shows the 5 times table. Then we look for the frame where they overlap:
First find the row with all multiples of 9. Then find the column with multiples of 6.
Follow the two lines until they meet. The box where they overlap tells you the product of 9 and 6. And that’s 54. Look!

The great thing about multiplication is that the order of the two numbers you multiply doesn’t matter.
Looking at the chart below, you can see that it doesn’t matter if you get a row of 6 and a column of 9 or a row of 9 and a column of 6. You still get the answer 54:
In fact, if you look closely, you’ll see that the graph is divided into two parts by a diagonal line from the multiplication sign to the number 100 in the bottom corner.

The numbers at the bottom of the chart are mirrored at the top. Whether you use the upper part to find the product of two numbers or the lower part of the graph, the answer is the same.
A multiplication chart is very valuable because it clearly shows all the times tables in just one grid. This is a useful instructional tool for children who need to learn and memorize their multiplication facts.

For example, children tasked with finding the area of rectangles will have a hard time if they don’t know their times table (you multiply the width by the length to find the area). Being able to use the multiplication grid as a reference means that a child can succeed in finding the area of a rectangle, even if they still can’t remember their multiplication facts exactly.
A blank multiplication grid or graph is a great way to practice times tables. By completing the table, the child practices every multiplication fact from 1 x 1 to 10 x 10 (or 12 x 12 or more, depending on the table!).
The ability to remember multiplication facts quickly and accurately is important for children when learning math. Times tables appear in many areas of mathematics. In addition, the ability to easily remember multiplication facts is also useful in everyday life.
Multiplication Facts Without The Timed Tests

A multiplication table is a good way to identify patterns both within the chart itself and within the individual time table.
For example, let’s look at square numbers. A square number is the product of a number multiplied by itself. For example, 25 is a square number because it is equal to 5 x 5. On the graph, the square numbers form a straight diagonal line on the graph like this:

Also, clearly organized into rows, you can identify patterns within each time period. For example, in the 10 times table, you can see that one digit is always 0. Or, when looking at the 9 times table, a number decreases by 1 as the multiples of 9 get larger.
