Well, 2 years later and baby number 2 was born, I decided I was tired of plain seats. Needless to say, it didn’t look great in the nursery, especially with those monogrammed pillows that some good friends gave Anna!
I found a pink and gray zigzag fabric on Fabric.com that I thought would be perfect. The fabric was on sale at the time, so it was an inexpensive way to update the nursery.
Since it’s 56″ wide, I only needed 2 yards to cover the chair. My project was based on this tutorial I found on Stickleberry, but since my fabric is a different width, I modified it slightly.
No Shame In The Poäng Chair
First, I laid out the whole piece, marked the center and cut it in half. Then, I put one piece up, put the pillow on top, and put the other piece down. I marked the top of the fabric next to the pillow’s velcro and cut it out.
So, I had 3 pieces of fabric: a long piece of fabric in the front and two short pieces of fabric in the back. I folded the back two pieces over twice and pinned them. (I know this isn’t very detailed, but honestly, the instructions I mentioned are pretty thorough in these steps.
Then I turned and sewed the longest piece of fabric to the front. I then put it on the floor, put the pillow inside, and sewed the top of the back fabric to the front fabric. I want the seam to be at the end of the pillow. I also sewed on the velcro at this point.

Once I had a large enough piece of fabric, I just needed to sew the edges. I like things to be precise, so I measured the width of the pillowcase to be 24.5″ wide. That’s about right for the pillowcase. I measured, measured, and marked the fabric on the bottom of the pillowcase to be 24.5″ wide. After I sewed the cover, I stuffed the pillowcase inside to check the width. (It probably would have been easier to rip it if I had to, but I didn’t, it worked out so well!) Then I pinned, measured, and marked the top.
I stitched diagonally across the corners since they are round, trimmed the edges with a small stitch, turned them over and stuffed the pillow inside. And – ta-da! New seat with removable cover!
