Completely disappeared. This room (and all rooms!) is about long-term practicality, and the previous electrical situation was far from practical. So I went to Screwfix and got some tools. We buy in bulk because all the power in this house is in ridiculous places and not a single plug, switch or cord is buried in the wall. As such, our house is a bit of a chaotic mess of huge surface-mounted trunks and plastic boxes. ugly.
The first job was to move the light to the center of the room. It was really a simple job of disconnecting, drilling a new hole, raising the floorboards in the attic above, and repositioning the cable.

But things are never that simple! Since the new location (and the old one) was in the eaves of the attic room, there was no way to get directly to the new hole from the room above. We picked up the nearest floorboard where we could run the wire straight from the old location, but couldn’t run it straight through the new hole, simply because we couldn’t reach it. Instead, we used a makeshift cable pole that we put through the hole from below until it could be reached under the floorboards in the upstairs bedroom. We tie the cable to it and pull it back and… voila!
We had to run some cables through, but it was very easy to do with this technique. We also replaced the old pull switch with a modern wall switch. We opted for a rocker switch which was a bit more expensive, but the click is incredibly satisfying. It is still behind the door, as we intend to re-hang the door so that it opens in the opposite direction, as we also did in the bathroom.
All of the above was a very simple repositioning job. We do not use new cables or change anything in any way; the second part of this move required additional electrical work. Since the bedroom only had one double outlet, we had to add two to meet our electrical needs. Most bedrooms these days are equipped with two double plugs anyway, and since it’s so easy to do it makes sense.
