Contents: Two pieces of fabric (softer fabric is better), 22″ zipper, 3.5 cubic feet of bean bag filling
How To Make A Reading Nook Using Two Wooden Palettes (part 1)
1. Cut two pieces of fabric 45″ x 32″. The pieces can be the same, or you can choose coordinating patterns for a two-tone look.
2. Turn right sides together. Use a zigzag stitch on long raw edges to prevent fraying. Then sew the same edges straight. Due to the amount of abuse these stitches will take, I recommend using a short stitch length for durability.
5. Open the fabric up and you should have a nice symmetrical curve on one side. Zigzag the raw edge and again use a straight stitch to close.

6. Open the remaining sewn edge. Keeping right sides together, fold in half in the opposite direction as shown below.
7. Sew your 22″ zipper down the center of this opening. I used an invisible zipper so it will be less noticeable when you’re done.
9. Turn the bean bag chair right side out and fill it with beans! This child-sized chair fills a bag (3.5 cubic feet or 100 liters) of bean bags to make the perfect filler. There’s really no easy way to stick those little static crazy balls together without dropping something. My best tip is to have two people hold the shutter open and a third person to position it – oh, keep your vacuum cleaner on standby!

Using two different fabrics means that the bean bag can also be reversed. Just turn it over and you’ll get a whole new atmosphere – it’s two chairs in one!

Note that the pellets used to fill the bean bags are a choking hazard! Since the zipper is accessible, make them only for children old enough to eat.
