After a year of personal light I returned the seats. They had brown fabric on the sofa and I replaced it with green/blue fabric (and before that, I made some patterns shown above). After a few minutes of sanding with the orbital sander, I can say that I made the right choice. Underneath all the color and dark cherry stain the wood is beautiful! Sanding and removing stained and painted furniture is not a quick job. Thanks to my son for agreeing to help sand while I worked to get the holes and all the hard parts to be sanded with paint.

When we put the seats on the green wood, the wood is beautiful but a little yellow. I mixed about a tablespoon of white paint with two cups of water and used a cloth to wipe the chairs together. I use this wash a lot when I want to keep the orange or yellow tone in the wood and it works great! We work in the chairs several hours a day (and two days work every day). It took three weeks to complete all 8 seats.

I found this herringbone decorative fabric at my local Hobby Lobby and was happy that it was 30% off. I grabbed my nail brad, scissors, and a trimmer. Then I put the fabric on my dining table and cut all eight pieces to fit my chair, making enough fabric to wrap around the sides and protect the bottom of the chair.

I started by making sure the fabric was really showing and followed the left then the right. Then, I pulled the front of the chair hard, starting at one corner and rolled it to make sure the corner was double and straight. After folding this corner, I work down the front side to the other front corner and repeat the same folding. After doing both sides and front, I turn the back corner and work my way through the back (pulling hard as I go) until I reach the last corner.

After I finished covering the chairs, I put the chair in front of my desk and put the chair on top of the chair. Then I attached the four corners of the seat frame to the bottom of the seat.

I really want my chairs to look “natural” and “down” and I think I achieved that by making them fall and changing the fabric to something softer. What do you think?! They look really young!?
