A few weeks ago I decided it was time to give some of my home decor a makeover. I pulled things off the wall and started adjusting them. Then I made a nice big window for that area, put on a nice yellow collar, and tried to work with the existing cabinets, but it felt terrible. So I searched the city and the internet for a suitable sofa and table for the space. I found a few, but they all seemed to be over $100, the wrong size, or the wrong color. So I decided to make a table instead. I mostly design furniture, my husband and I do it together. This time I decided to try myself and I succeeded! I made this table 100% myself :). If I can do it, so can you, especially if I give you step-by-step instructions.

Before that, I drove myself crazy and decided to take it apart once 🙂

I started with a 2x8x8 log and cut it in half to 48″, using a miter saw.

To connect the two panels, I use flat clamps that I screw into the base of the wood.

Now about the legs. First I decided how far the legs should go from the top. Finally, the legs are 2″ from the sides, 3/4″ from the front and back. I used 2×2 wood for extra support for the legs (and they look good too). I then cut two pieces of 2 x 2 26 inch wood and 2 pieces of 2 x 2 10 inch wood. Next, I cut 4 pieces of 2×4 27.5″ lumber (these are the legs). I put them all on the bottom of the table top before I started putting them on. on the nail gun. I got two legs at once and worked from there. The 2×2 lumber is nailed directly to the bottom of the table top and the legs to the 2×2 lumber. I used 1 1/2 inch nails.

For extra support, I used some L brackets, nailed them to the legs, and then attached them to the bottom of the table top.

Now off the shelf. I used particleboard for the floor, but it was thinner than the 2×2 and 2×4 lumber I used, so I had to use 3/4″ brackets to attach it to the 2×4 lumber. I cut the chipboard to 10″x36″, the 2x4s to 10″, and the 2x2s to 36″. I nailed the 2x2s directly to the chipboard and then used three brackets on each side to hold the 2x4s in place. This is what it looks like from the inside.

I nailed the shelf to the bottom of the legs. I used a piece of 2×4 to level and match as I nailed. I attached the shelf to the 2×4s (attached to the shelf) by nailing the legs. If you look at the picture, there are about 5 nails on each leg to support the shelf. I then nailed the 2×2 (that was nailed to the floor) and angled them to secure the 2×2 to the legs. I went into the stand and went back and nailed everything down to give it more support. Now that the table is ready, it’s time to paint!

First I painted the whole thing, then I painted the tabletop an espresso color. I removed the excess dirt with a brush and rag. So before I started painting the legs, I used wood filler to fill all the nail holes I made on the table.

Then the top of the coffee table, legs and base were sanded. I then added two coats of white paint. I also painted the bottom of the table top (and all the supports) white.

I remove the tape and let it dry. Then I printed the holes to make it look good. And that’s it! I stood back and admired my work :).
