First you need to figure out how much fabric you need. Place the round pillow top on the wrong side of the fabric. Oh, and remove the ridiculous amount of tags (see below for that parody.)
Cut the fabric into a circle, adding several inches to each side. I say several inches because the thickness of your pad determines this extra amount. You need to consider how much fabric you need to cover the side of the pillow and how much to cover the string. When in doubt, err on the side of extra fabric. And it’s easier to cut fabric than to add! I added between 2-2.5 inches on each side.
Then finish the edges of the fabric. I used my Brother 1034D overlocker to finish my raw edges, but you can also use a zigzag or overlock stitch on your sewing machine. This will prevent the edge from expanding. Sure, you can fold the edges down and fold them back up, but it’s the bottom of a chair cover, so I don’t care what it looks like! Skipping the double folds means I don’t need to iron!

Now go ahead and set your logarithm. Fold the fabric and fasten with pins or clips. I love Wonder Clips for this! Make sure the fold is large enough for the drawing. Mine was about 1/2″ wide for my 1/4″ lacing.
Sew just inside the raw edge you folded to make the envelope. Leave a small 1″ hole that you will use to insert the cord. It’s hard to see, but I overstitched the edges.
Use an awl or safety pin to thread the string through the casing. If your hole is too big, you can sew it a little more at this point. My hole was so small.

Place the pad back in the center of the card and tighten the string around the pad. Watch in awe as your own DIY pillowcase wraps around your pillow. Tie the cord into a nice bow or knot. Or, if you don’t want it to come out, keep it inside.
