It is best to cut the ribs by making a standard rib fence on all table saws. The ribcage is good, won’t fall out of alignment after a few uses and is easy to adjust when needed. The better Bismeyer style fences have a 3-4 inch face and that’s enough to attach some very low profile things like blocks, but in the end there isn’t much that a standard rib fence does. . Support outside the main function. If you want to make your fence the best version of itself, you really need two things: height and versatility.
The height allows the saw to better support vertical cuts. Consider making tall panels on the table. To move the door panel through the saw blade, you need a strong and stable support. Or think about cutting your cheeks.
And if you want to add all that height, you can build some way to attach other things. That way, your fence can hold things while you work.
Ways To Use A Table Saw
My latest table saw fence is built to handle all the operations I want to do on my table saw. It has a nearly 1-foot-tall face, squeezes snugly under the rail for solid stability, and features a T-track and miter track that allows for all types of attachments anywhere along the length of the rail.
I also thought about the warehouse. If you have all the space on the fence, you can keep your most used tools close at hand, right? More later.
The main thing in all this is the sub fence. It provides stability and basic attachment points for other things like high fences. You’ll want to be careful to make sure the sub fence is flush with your rib fence. The key here is that you don’t want to move or sway, especially around that tall fence.

The sub-fence is made of 3/4-inch (19 mm) Baltic birch and has two vertical sections 6 inches high.
Both of these are glued to a horizontal piece made of Baltic birch. I used two steps to give a solid turning surface and a nice flat 90 degree reference. The horizontal band should be the exact width of your ribcage minus the tiiiiiii bit. Maybe 1/128 inch. This makes the piston tight against the rib to fit when you rotate the sides.
They have small cutouts in the front and back, the whole barrier doesn’t slip, but fits like a glove over the rib barrier. At the front you need to cut an end so that the edge of the rib goes through. This will be different for each saw, so adjust the notch for your fence.

You can see here that I put 2″ screws on the sides to attach the bottom rail. Make sure you soak them so they don’t interfere with the function of the fence.
Here you can see how the rib of the sub fence slides over the fence. To facilitate the sliding process under the rail, I recommend filing the inside edge of the rail by 1/8 inch.
Another major feature of the sub-fence is the T-nut I put on it. There are four T-nuts on each side of the sub fence to hold it together with my raised fence. These T-nuts are cast from the opposite side before joining the sub-rail.

The tall fence is made of 2 pieces of 3/4 inch baltic birch, glued together and covered with fence. Ant is optional, but it provides strength and durability, as well as a smooth, easy-to-clean surface where you can make highly visible reference marks.
One side of the fence has a T-road. This allows all kinds of ties to be added to the fence.
The other side has a cut-out notch at the bottom that allows you to place scraps on the table saw.

And it has a miter track on the top. This is to help with jigs that need to slide across the blade (I’ll show you a few below).
The way I made the tee nut allows me to close the high fence from anywhere.
So the first thing I recommend as an addition to the ultimate table saw fence is feather boards. Feather boards are like extra arms that can apply downward pressure on the work as it passes through the saw blade.
Basics Of Sizing Parts On A Table Saw
One featherboard is good, but two are better. This way you can control the bush before and after cutting. Here is a link to the pens I have.

Another very versatile accessory is the L fence. The L fence makes fast grids and makes straight or tapered cuts. My L-fence is just two boards with the ends at right angles. One side is attached to the fence; The other side extends horizontally to guide the workpiece or template. And since this barrier floats above the blade, it doesn’t hurt like a sacrificial barrier.
To cut a cone on the work surface, mark the starting and ending points of the edge.
How To Make A Table Saw Fence
Then find something with a straight edge (I use a stiff card that I’ve made sure is straight). A straight edge works too.
Attach it to your work with double-sided tape. This tape creates a strong, non-destructive bond. Make sure the height of the saw is high enough to cut the piece. Also position the rip fence so that it sits on top of the blade without touching it, and line up the edge of the fence L with the outer edge of the fence.
Now with the edge of the L fence placed against the edge of the saw blade, hooking the runner to the L fence as you pass the work through the blade. Everything that passes is cut by the leaves.

You can do the same operation using the notches on the side of the fence. Again, line up the outside of the fence with the fence and below grade.
Now, if there is something to cut the flow like the edge band, it can be easily done. Press your work surface against the fence as you run the blade and anything that sticks out below the edge will be cut away.
The top miter track is great for barges that need to slide on the saw, such as for tenoning.
How To Set Up Your Table Saw
I made a slide with a jointed rail that slides down the subway track. The slider has a T-nut inside that can be used to lock anything you want on the fence.
As you can see here, my teno-jig allows me to make reliable and accurate elevations as easy as cheek.

I keep all the tools I use regularly on the table saw. I use magnets to make sure my metal tools don’t move while I’m working.
Then add quick drying glue and add a 1/16 thick layer of lacquer over those magnets.
As you can see, I have a long magnetic bar that I like to keep my rulers, tape measure, wheat knife and other small metal objects in a safe place.

I also made this other block that is not magnetic but holds my square, pencils, markers and router height adjuster (I have a router on the side of my table saw).
