How To Make Jute Placemats

How To Make Jute Placemats – I’ve been eyeing some Cecil placemats from Pottery Barn for a while. I like their rustic look, but I’m not in love with the price tag. Don’t get me wrong, Pottery Barn has good quality products, they’re just out of my price range. But one day when I was gathering jute yarn for some invitations at Hobby Lobby, I came across a large embroidered cover that looked like the sisal used in PB placemats. Even better, it was 50% off and only $6! I think

I would probably cut this cover exactly like the PBs with some hot glue and this burlap.

First I covered my workspace with wax paper. Then I started rolling and rolling the dough into a circular shape. It takes some effort to get going, but once you get a few rounds, it’s pretty easy to keep going.

Simply glue around the edges until you get the shape you need and tape the tissue in place. Make sure it is wider than your plate so you can see it when the plate is up. As you punch, it will curl up around the edges. Don’t worry, you want to do it. The following will be on top when you are done.

When you’re done, turn it over and the curved part will now be facing down. It adds edge and gives more volume to the mat.

After making the three placemats, I had some corn left over, so I wrapped it around a cheap vase and glued it in place. I love how they turned out! They can be used on different tables. The rustic look of Sut is perfect for a cabin-style brunch, a nautical-themed meal or a rustic buffet.

Special thanks to my sweet husband, who brought me flowers at home. Because it was Friday and because he is awesome.

So what do you think? Still want to pay for an expensive dishwasher? no? Didn’t think Hi guys, I’m excited to share with you a fun DIY project using burlap and nautical rope to make a beautiful bohemian placemat. In case you didn’t know, I’ve been making changes to my rental kitchen for a while now. I recently picked up a wooden dining table and added some wall decor. To complete the transformation, I wanted the plate chargers to match the new aesthetic of the kitchen. I found the perfect fit at Anthropologie, but the price was a bit steep for my taste. I thought I could make it myself for a fraction of the cost.

1.) Start by cutting 2 pieces of cardboard or fabric to the shape you want your placemats to be.

2.) Add glue to the end of the rope and tie it tightly into a circle. Fold the bottom of this to the center of your cardboard.

5.) I cut the rope into 3 inch pieces. I gathered the dough and glued it to the back of the place mat.

7.) For extra rigidity and a clean look, I attached the second piece of cardboard that I cut in the first step to the back of the ceiling. Have you ever seen a decorative piece or surface in your home and realized it would look great with some kind of ceiling or cover or underlay? Sometimes it’s okay to complete the look and throw things out. Sure, you can buy all kinds of cute things at the store to decorate around your house or put in drinks, but I always feel a little more complete when I make something myself. How I came up with this stylish, round jute place mat!

I’ve been working hard to create some pretty cool aesthetics around my house and I’m missing this piece to go with it, so I thought other DIY enthusiasts with similar tastes might like it. Love how I did it. Check out these step-by-step instructions, complete with photos! Apply hot glue to one end of the jute rope. Gently fold the end back on itself, twisting it so it rests on itself so you have a curved shape to start your spiral. This is the starting shape around which you will wrap the rest of the cover piece.

Turn the carved shape on its side so you can see a flat surface and apply more hot glue to the edges. Continue curling your shape around so that it consistently meets its intended connecting edge, continuing the spiral shape and increasing the diameter of the flat circle.

Continue to glue the flat outer edge around your circle, spiraling it to attach more rope and make the shape larger. Continue until the rug is the size you want! As it grows, you may notice that it becomes completely flat and becomes a little harder to stay completely flat as the flower dries. Feel free to lay it flat on the tablet and adjust it at any time to keep things neat and tidy.

Once you have the jute area mated to the size you want, apply the last strip of glue and glue firmly to what will be the end. Flatten the shape and cut the cover piece to remove any excess rope you may have left. Voila!
