You only need a few supplies for this project. I would definitely recommend getting a rotary cutter for any project that requires precise cutting. I’ve included a pattern that you can use if you want, but you don’t have to. Instructions for both methods are provided below.
How To Make An Ironing Board Pad
I always like to start any project by washing, drying and ironing the fabric. This will probably be the last time you iron without this ironing board cover! This will help prepare the fabric for your project, as well as for future washing, as it has shrunk the fabric so you don’t damage the stitching later. I will show you how to do this with and without the included pattern. First I’ll show you how to make it with a free printable pattern, then without.
Reversible Diy Ironing Board Cover
To make a DIY ironing board cover with a pattern, cut cotton with the pattern. Lay the interior design fabric wrong side out on a flat surface. Place a piece of cotton in the center of the fabric. Using a sewing guide, tape measure, etc. and a fabric marker or pencil, measure 4″ down from the edge of the pattern piece and make a mark. Do this all the way through. Now complete the entire pattern and match your mark to the line Now cut the fabric.
If you want to make an ironing board cover without a printable pattern, follow these steps. Start by placing a cotton ball on a flat surface. Use a fabric marker or pencil to create your own pattern on the ironing board! Cut into balls and set aside.

How To Replace The Cover On Your Ironing Board
As before, using a sewing guide, ruler, etc., fabric marker or pencil, measure 4 inches from the edge of the line you made and make a mark. Do this for the end. Now connect the marks to the lines and make a pattern. Now cut your fabric.
From here, the steps are the same whether you use a printable pattern or not. Using a seam guide, ruler, etc. and a fabric marker or pencil, measure 1/2 inch from the edge and make a mark. Do this for the end. Now repeat it again.
Starting at the long side, fold it at the first ½” mark and press it with a hot iron. Do this all the way through. When you reach the curve, carefully remove the excess fabric. Go back and repeat. You’re almost Done!

If necessary, sew on the edge of the seam by ¼”. You will cover the opening of the seam so that there is enough room for the cable to pass through. Leave a 3-4″ hole at the end of the flat. under the lid.
