This requires three pieces of light colored wood that are 3/4″ thick, 3-1/2″ wide and 40″ long. Poplar because it’s cheap and so am I. To do this, use a 1×4 pine or spruce, available at a lumber yard or home center. Use a compass to draw a half circle on the end of each stick and cut it on the scroll saw, band saw or any other method that works for sanding it with 120 grit sandpaper. You now have three giant craftsman’s wands.
An ice cream stick is made according to its color. Stained Kool-Aid. This is my favorite color for kids projects. Cheap, safe and fragrant. (If it doesn’t run out, the Kool-Aid smell remains.) A dip tank is a two-foot, 4-inch-deep drain pipe, closed at one end. The dye is made by mixing eight packets of Kool-Aid with 5 gallons of water. This chair uses grapes, cherries and oranges. Make a mark on the 22″ stick and place it in the paint. Note that the mark is set slightly above the surface of the paint. This is because the paint spreads a little along the stick.
