How To Make A Resin Bottle Cap Table – My husband has kept bottle caps for as long as I have known people, and said that one day he plans to make some. He wasn’t sure what it was and the bottle caps kept piling up. Inspired by the colorful collection, I decided to make a practical gift for him. And given the volume of the cover, I thought it would be cool to create something that is used a lot!
Looking through Pinterest, I found lots of bottle cap craft inspiration. The one I use the most is a table, so I made one for that.
How To Make A Resin Bottle Cap Table
I found a sturdy, basic little table at a thrift store. It has a little princess cluster and a heart sticker glued on top, which I decided to leave off I definitely do not need a smooth surface.

I started by separating the covers by color to see what patterns I could make based on the colors and sizes I had. Once I figured it out, I took the lid off and put it in the cup by color.
To make grouting and grouting easier, I added an edge to the edge of the table by nailing 1″x2″ pieces to size.
Since the corners of the table were rounded and I didn’t have the skill or patience to cut the trim to fit, there was a gap to fill.

I improvised by stuffing in aluminum foil wrapped tightly in the corner to fill the gap.
I filled all the gaps with wood filler to prevent the grout or lacquer from coming out. After the wood filler dried, I sanded and removed any loose pieces.
Next, I attached the cover, starting from the outside. I use gorilla glue and it works great. It provides a strong hold, but doesn’t dry quickly, so you can adjust the lid as you work. You don’t need to use a lot per cap, just a few drops. After I glued all the covers together, I let them dry overnight. 80% dry within 2 hours, but fully recovered within 24 hours.

Next, I placed the cover to give it a tiled effect. Using a grout float, I carefully worked the grout into and around the bottle cap, making sure there were no gaps. I used a float to make the top even and smooth to the point where the hats were visible. I used a wet sponge to clean all the grout until the bottle cap was visible and the grout was level. It took longer and required more patience than I expected! Then I leave it for 24 hours.
Finally, I covered all the surfaces with epoxy resin, so that I could fill all the gaps. I let it sit one more night. Although not perfect, I am very happy with the results! How To Make A Table Using Beer Bottle Caps
I have always used the E6000 for everything and it has always done the trick. The great thing about this glue is that it bonds to everything, including metal, cement, rubber, and fabric. In addition, it is dry clean.
Regardless of the process of creating a beer bottle cap table, you will want to choose some epoxy to save the hard work and give it a smooth finish.
Make sure your beer bottle cap is clean and dry, then start placing it on the table surface you want to stick it on. It’s important not to skip this step because you want the bottle caps to line up without awkward gaps in between.

Once you’ve found a pattern you like and everything fits on the table surface, it’s time to attach the beer bottle caps using E6000 glue. Again, you can use any type of glue, as long as it is all-purpose and bonds to both wood and metal.
There are many ways you can glue a hat. Depending on the shape of the table, you can start gluing on one side and work up, or you can start around the frame and work your way to the center.
After gluing all the bottle caps, make sure to let the glue dry for at least 24 hours.
Casting Resin Vs Table Top Epoxy Resin
The next step is to pour the epoxy evenly over the beer bottle cap. Epoxy is a clear coat that appears on many of these types of tables. It comes in two parts and it is important that you follow the instructions that come with the epoxy because each brand of epoxy has a slightly different ratio of surface resin vs epoxy hardener.
A few tips from the experience of using epoxy: Make sure you use it in a well-ventilated area. Also, it can get messy, especially if it’s on the edge of a table, so make sure you put down a floor protector like a plastic tarp.
You can also wrap the frame of the work surface with something like tin foil. The Instructables website provides a great example of how this can be done.

After all the resin is poured, let the tabletop cure for 24-48 hours, then it’s done!
If you like the idea of creating a unique table, but beer bottle caps aren’t your thing, you can use coins. I personally covered the entire table with money and I love how it turned out! The process is almost the same.

Caps should be as clean and dent free as possible. They should be kept as flat as possible, and they look better if they are not bent at all.
