My local blogger friend Julie Blanner asked if I could make a cover for her IKEA HENRIKSDAL bar stool. She bought three for her new kitchen remodel and wanted countertops that matched her style. Not all covers on the market had the charm and custom that I was hoping for.
She had never sewn a Parsons quilt before, but she knew she was up for the challenge. After all, it couldn’t be more difficult than a wing chair slider!

I started by placing the top piece on the chair, on the right side. I checked that it was pulled evenly all the way around and that the stripes were straight.
After the side pieces were sewn, I lined up all the strips and added the seat piece.

To begin, you need to measure the chair and record the measurements. For comparison, you can also see the photos below to see how I measured my chair. Here are the measurement points and other things to consider:
You can adjust the printable seat cover pattern for any measurement point other than these. For example, if the back of the chair is only 20 inches high, use a pencil and ruler to reduce the height of the pattern piece by 3 inches. Cut and cut the pattern as you would for a dress pattern that is too long.
Next, make a pattern for the skirt of the seat cover. This is a long rectangular piece that wraps around the seat and is sewn to the seat and back cover.

Print the sleeve pattern on an 8.5×11 sheet of paper without scaling. Trace the edges of the cards and glue them together to make complete pattern pieces. Cut around each individual pattern to cut the fabric. The cover consists of three parts of the model: the seat, the seat and the skirt.
Place the piece of fabric on a flat surface and place the individual pattern pieces on the fabric, aligning the grain lines.
Pin the pattern to a piece of fabric (or use a paperweight), then cut out the solid lines with scissors. As mentioned above, I suggest using the fabric to make a pattern before using the actual fabric.
How To Make A Cushion Cover For A Chair
With right sides together, fold the back piece in half along the top edge. Also on the sides, sew the raw edges with a ½” seam from top to bottom.
To create the depth to match the back of the chair, form a triangle at the top corners as shown and form a long seam line 1 inch wide.
Turn the sewn piece inside out and lay it on the back of the chair to see how it fits together.

If it looks good, go ahead, but if it looks too big, too small, or too short, adjust the sleeve pattern and repeat.
Next, sew the seat piece to the front of the seat back piece with right sides together with a ½” seam. Remember to center the seat piece (and match the grooves).
Before continuing to sew the skirt, put the cover on the seat to check the fit. If the fit looks good, continue sewing, but if the seat looks too big, too small, or the wrong shape, adjust the pattern accordingly and repeat the pattern to check the shape.

Fold the bottom edge ½” and press in place with an iron, then fold the hem another ½” and press in place. Next, fold the short end of the ½” long rectangle skirt and press. Fold back, press, then sew the edge with a ½” seam. Also, hem the bottom hem with a ½ inch hem the entire length of the skirt.
Align the notches on the skirt piece and the seat piece with right sides together and join the pieces if necessary.
Start sewing the pieces with a ½” seam at CF (center front) and continue to CB (center back). Be very careful with all corners to turn. Trim the skirt piece slightly at all pivot points to help the fabric to form an angle of 90 degrees and avoid folds or rust at the corners.

Repeat without a stitch for the other side, starting at CF and ending at CB. The back of the skirt overlaps.
