You can use a Kreg Jig (recommended pocket holes shown above) or self-tapping wood screws to make this chair.
The advantage of pocket holes is that no fasteners are visible. If you use a pad it will cover all the fasteners so you may or may not care.
When connecting 2x to 2x boards, 1-1/2″ and 2-1/2″ screws with an internal hexagon are used. Use 3/4″ and 1-1/4″ eye screws when joining boards 2x to 1x.

Mark and drill all holes before assembly. The assembly order may differ from the order shown in the pictures.
Assemble the frame using 2-1/2″ screws or a Kreg jig. Make sure the frame is very square.
Assemble the backrest according to the picture. Make sure the 2x4s are set 2″ from the ends of the 2x2s.

Composite decking materials hold up well outside, but have different properties than wood. What you need to know when working with it:
TIP: There are many kits available for drilling and plugging screw holes in composite boards, but I found it much easier to countersink the pilot holes with a ¼-inch bit before installing the plugs.
Follow the cut list above and cut the tile to size using a table saw and then a miter saw. Apply polyurethane adhesive to the incomplete composite surfaces of the short leg and long leg. Align the bottom edges and tighten until the glue sets. Drill four pilot holes in the longer leg and the shorter leg; Countersink with a 1/4 inch bit, then attach with 15/8 inch screws. Seal each opening with a plug. Do the same for the remaining legs.

Place the arms of the front legs on the bottom edges of the sides of the frame, 91/8 inches from the front end of the frame. Glue, clamp, and secure with 15/8″ screws. Pick up the chair support rails on both sides of each leg with the grooved sides down. Using the same screws, glue, clamp, and secure the rails to the sides and ends of the frames, 1 inch below their top edge.
To ensure that the back rests on the hind legs, trim the shoulders to the thickness of the backrest. Then glue and screw each leg 11 inches from the ends of the frame.
Place the backrests 1 inch from the installed seat support rails. Drill a 3/8-inch hole in the pieces 1 inch from the end of the back rail.

Place the sides and ends of the chair frame perpendicular to each other on their straight edges. Drill two pilot holes along each end plate and on the sides. Attach the parts with glue and 3-inch screws; hide the screws with the plug. Glue and screw the support rail sections to the inside of each end of the frame.
Remove the carriage bolt from each frame section and each backrest arm. Insert the screw heads into the composite. Add the washers and then tighten the lock nut on each bolt with a wrench.
Place the first slat on the front of the frame, then glue and screw it together with the other six slats to the fixed rails. Attach the ends of the slats with glue and two screws, leaving a 1-inch gap between them. Assemble the U-shaped frame for the backrest. Place on the rear legs, glue and then screw the remaining slats to the frame.

Screw two 5-inch-wide boards together to create an L-shaped shelf to raise the backrest; fasten the stand between the rear legs. Create a U-shaped arm using glue, 3-inch screws, and three sizes of stock; screw it into the frame. Now screw the folded blocks into the frame so that they hug the backrest when lying flat.

I love these outdoor storage chairs shared by European magazine. The magazine shares a rough sketch and instructions for metric measurements to make this folding lounger.
For those of us in the old US, I adjusted the measurements to accommodate common outdoor cushions and readily available wood. Besides looking great, these DIY recliners are nice because you can store them in a compartment when not in use.
I used 2″ x 6″ boards for most of the build since 2″ x 6″ is cheaper here than 1″ x 6″ boards.
