How To Make A Table Leaf – You won’t believe how easy it is to make a console table with an old table top and some weird table legs. I think it took me longer to figure out how to make this console table. This console table stands on two legs and is attached to the wall. This is a great way to use two odd table legs.
I found these two table tops in Nashville a few years ago. They were a good deal, but I didn’t know what to do with them.

As I was trying to get the pins out of the leaves, my neighbor Rodney walked by and showed me a better way. I used it to hammer and pull the stand out of the house, and when Rodney said he didn’t want to tell me how to do it, he showed me how to make it easier. Rodney got a good grip on the nail, then hit it with the hammer, and voila! the nail came right out.

These table legs were given to me a few days ago when Rodney was cleaning out his garage. As I was getting ready to save them, I saw the tablecloth and thought that they would make a wonderful marriage. I recently wanted to make a neat console table, but ended up attaching the table to the door to make a DIY entryway table.
To attach the table legs to the new console table (table top), I drill pocket holes with a Craig Jig (K3). The table leg did not attach to my K4 leg. Irwin held the clamp fast while I drilled.

Gorilla wood glue and hole screws hold very securely. I have used Craigs multi brand tool and the distance was the same on each table leg. Supposedly I drew a placement pattern to make sure the legs were square in the right place.
Since I attached the big legs to the stock, this is how I set up the template when drilling and used 1 ¼ inch screws.
The table cover matches my K4 template so I used it for all the skirt pieces. It is also set at ¾ inch.

I used a combination square to make sure the curve was square. This kind of work is easy if you have the right tools.
After attaching the belt with some screws I wanted to put it on the ground so I would like to see how it goes together. My DIY wooden fence is standing.
Notice how the front of the table looks unfinished – the side pieces here make the whole thing look clunky. I’ll show you how I did it later.

It’s time to add a protective layer to the wall. I cut a 1×6 to the proper width to match the boards used for the skirt.
Then I realized that I wanted to place a table skirt with extra pocket holes over the table. I used my Kreg Mini Jig for this – it’s very strong and easily clamps where I need to add a pocket hole.
You can see how I attached it to the back of the table. Pilot holes are pre-drilled to attach this new console table to the wall in your new home.

Need a little TLC on that messy front? I have cut many boards and always save the thin pieces and found the perfect piece to add here. I drew the pattern on each side and cut out the trim detail with a jigsaw. Using Gorilla Wood Glue and a nail gun, I attached these thin pieces to the front of the table.
Very good! This thin trim hides these additional panels on both sides. I turned him on his side. After varnishing, it will look even better.

Instead of leaving it white, I decided to use my favorite pepper smoke. Latex gloves and an inexpensive brush with a soft cloth are the best way to apply this beautiful shine.

To make the table legs and bottom, I spread wax paper over the table top to prevent the paint from sticking and transferred the table top paint to the new glass table top.

Oh, I love the new look of the table legs. They don’t look like the original orange legs you got from Rodney.
Here’s a great tip for you. I keep a bottle of dishwashing liquid in the garage, mostly just a little soap and water. This is a great way to quickly clean your hands or brushes. I don’t need to wash my hands or brushes because the soap is minimal. I wash the brush and dry it with a cloth or paper towel. I highly recommend adding it to your cart. You’ll secretly thank me every time you use it for a quick clean!
The table is simply attached to the wall with wood screws. The pilot holes are placed to allow the screws to be inserted into the existing ropes.

To make the sliders for the leaf mechanism I made a table sled and adjusted the final angle as needed to line up with the main leaf surface, a tip is to always use scraps first to get things out for testing. the angle is difficult to find and may take several tries.
