Patience requires endurance. When we are under severe affliction, this gift of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22) is the result of our submission to His authority. Hearts established in God’s Truth give us the grace we need to be patient. James 5:8 combines the idea of steadfastness and patience when you say, Strengthen your hearts, because the coming of the Lord is short.

We cannot show the gift of spiritual patience and forgiveness when we have not trained our minds in the Word of God. I couldn’t run a race after two years of sitting on the couch eating ice cream. Nor can I hope to experience the peace and perspective that comes from knowing God without actively seeking Him.
Even though my husband and I have been married for over 10 years, we are still learning new things about each other. When we are asked to be patient, our immediate response may be to focus on what we can see or to actively work in finding solutions beyond our vision. We can see that we are trying to point out a reason or blame for God’s chosen time of silence. James 5:9 says: “Do not murmur against one another, brothers,” instructing us instead to “resist anger and revenge” (NIV Study Bible Notes).

Controlling our anger toward other people or even toward ourselves cannot hasten God’s timing or change His purpose for our days or lives. On the contrary, it can keep us out of the bag of blessings. Sometimes, we are just called to sit in front of Him. Instead, we keep silent about God’s answer and talk about the people around us.
Even smart things sometimes for incomplete applications and recommendations. But in our haste to move forward and strive forward, we sometimes fail to check their words with God’s words. Instead of sitting quietly with Him to let Him guide us, we rush to practical solutions.
The danger of impatience is that we are likely to rush into bad decisions or avoidable situations. God, in His mercy and compassion for us, will not turn His back and mark our lives

Our free will does not override God’s mighty hand over the universe, and this is the ultimate control.
James 1:3 says that “the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” If we have lived long enough to think about the ways in which God draws us, we can rest, and even be happy in trials. The patience we learn by spending time with God allows us to submit to the gifts and power of the Holy Spirit within us, including patience. God’s description of James 1:3-4 says: “True patience born of endurance will prepare you to finish the long journey and cross the finish line mature, whole, and in need.”
We praise You for the gifts of the Holy Spirit and your living and active Word, which we often send our hearts to measure your Son, Jesus. Patience is not easy, but it is not ours to create in ourselves. Thank you for working in us what we would not be able to do otherwise. When injustice hits our reality, it’s hard to let Him make the first move. When the people in our lives are pushing us to grow, it’s hard to surrender to the power of the Holy Spirit within us. We want to take control and find solutions. Forgive us for letting our anger speak first.

Father, you love us so much and promise to protect us. He listens to us and cares about us. Help us to trust You with our daily struggles and battles. Remind us daily to sit with you and bask in the powerful wisdom available to us in your Word. Help us remember Psalm 56 when we are afraid. The time of waiting often brings us into fear, and fear can destroy our confidence and faith. However,
Help us to understand the weight and power of the words, “When I fear, I will trust in you.” ( Psalm 56:3 ) May the Holy Spirit move through us and remove our fear in times of trial, and bring new faith and confidence as your Word reminds us. Because “In God, the Word of whom I praise… I will not be afraid.” His word is powerful when we proclaim it in truth over our situations and fears.
Bless our hearts so that they can be established in Christ, because “the presence of the Lord is near”. (Jacob 5:8) May we always remember his sacrifice for us, and the love for us that drove him there. That same love promises to never leave us, and also enables us to endure trials of patience. None of them will last forever, but eternity will be with our Savior.
