Can You Live With Ms
If you have multiple sclerosis (MS), the local weather report can predict not only tomorrow’s forecast, but also how well you’ll feel.

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS) notes that many people with MS experience a temporary worsening of symptoms when the weather is too hot or humid.
According to a July 2021 article published in StatPearls, this is a feature of the Uhthoff phenomenon, a temporary worsening of symptoms in multiple sclerosis patients due to an increase in core body temperature. Uhthoff’s accident was caused, among other things, by exposure to hot weather.
At the same time, some people with multiple sclerosis find that some NMSS symptoms, especially dizziness, get worse when the weather is cold.

The NMSS adds that people with temperature-sensitive multiple sclerosis are generally advised to avoid extreme heat and cold.
Does changing your place of residence affect your well-being? If you’re considering moving for this reason, you may want to try a new climate to see if it makes or improves your symptoms before you move in, NMSS suggests.
Before moving, especially if you’re considering the southern United States, research average monthly temperatures for the areas you’re interested in.

According to an article in StatPearls, between 60% and 80% of people with MS experience Uhthoff’s phenomenon. People with multiple sclerosis should be warned not to expose themselves to the sun when the outside temperature is above 86°F. They should also consider other factors that can raise body temperature, such as baths, hot showers, hot baths and exercise. At noon when the weather is warmer.
Although heat and humidity can temporarily worsen MS symptoms, they do not cause actual nerve damage.
For some people with multiple sclerosis, snow and ice on sidewalks and streets can make it difficult or even impossible to get around, especially if you have trouble walking or using a wheelchair.
Monitoring Treatment Response In Relapsing Remitting Ms
“Ice and snow pose a potential risk to people who are already mobility impaired. “Some people with MS may have symptoms that are worse in the cold or in cold, wet weather,” says Dr. Geyser.
If you like cold weather, you can make walking in slippery conditions a little safer by attaching removable traction devices to your winter boots and tongs to your poles. Another option could be a slanted bar. If you have a wheelchair, consider swapping out the balloon for a wider balloon, says the University of Utah Health.
According to the NMSS, research is currently underway to determine whether vitamin D levels can affect MS activity.

A previous study published in the journal Neuroscience found that low levels of vitamin D were associated with increased MS activity or the formation of new lesions in the brain.
Recent research also suggests that vitamin D plays a role in neurodegeneration and myelin repair, the NMSS notes. Since the skin uses UVB from the sun to produce vitamin D, living in a sunnier climate can be important. According to the Harvard Health Journal, during the fall, winter and spring months at latitudes above 37 degrees north of the equator, the skin produces less vitamin D, so people living in these areas are at greater risk of vitamin D deficiency.
A 2015 study published in BMC Neuroscience found that people with multiple sclerosis were more likely to have moderate or high disability as latitude increased by 1 degree (further from the equator). A 1-degree increase in latitude was also associated with increased recidivism rates compared to the previous year, and the study authors suggested that vitamin D may play a role in these associations.
Health: The Price Of Multiple Sclerosis Drugs Only Goes Up
According to a recent study published in Brain in July 2021, the prevalence of MS increased 10-fold between 60 degrees north and south of the equator, which is believed to be at least partially related to vitamin D production.
The study also found for the first time that this gradual onset of MS can develop early in the womb or at birth, especially in women.
“Vitamin D appears to be involved in the risk of developing MS, and some data suggest that high levels of vitamin D may be somewhat protective against relapse,” Gieser said.

However, the benefits of tanning must be balanced against the risk of overheating, as well as the harmful effects of the sun, such as skin cancer.
“Vitamin D supplementation can also be achieved through vitamin D-rich foods and/or vitamin supplements. “It’s important to know that too much vitamin D can be toxic, so levels need to be monitored.” A review published in March 2020 in the journal Nutrition suggests that there are risks and benefits of vitamin D supplementation in MS, especially at high doses, and research is still inconclusive, so it’s best to talk to your neurologist before supplementing.
Your healthcare team goes beyond just your neurologist to include physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, psychologists, social workers, and other specialists.

To find a location where all of these health care providers are available, visit the NMSS Partners and MS Care page and enter the zip code of the desired location. This directory contains doctors, specialists and other resources within 5 to 250 miles of the zip code you enter.
However, if you want to relocate and continue to see a particular doctor or healthcare provider, telemedicine offers can give you more options.
Don’t forget to consider transportation options if you use a wheelchair or scooter to get around. Some cities may have public transport that is accessible to people with disabilities, while other areas may offer transport services where you can call ahead and reserve a van or minibus. Ride apps may offer alternative transportation options in some areas.
How To Choose Where To Live When You Have Ms
How do you know what is in a certain place? Try looking online for transportation information for your city or county, which should list public transportation options and wheelchair accessibility. Information about additional transport services for people who cannot use the bus, subway or train can be obtained from the office (or agency) of the municipality.
The best part of life – hyperactivity or not depends on your lifestyle. Do you want to be in town? The suburbs? A rural community? Do you need to be in a certain field for your job? Of course, you have to consider your budget and what you can and can’t afford.
Also consider your answers to the following questions: How close are you to activities that are important to you? How easy is it to access them? How close are you to family and friends? If you have to rely on them to get them, where they live affects where you live.
